Smoking ban forces Yamagata gov't to auction off luxury ashtrays

YAMAGATA --Yamagata municipal officials have decided to auction off 28 "luxury ashtrays" from the city hall, hoping to regain part of their cost price -- as much as 200,000 yen for the most expensive ones.
The municipal government decided to sell the cast-metal ashtrays because of new regulations that have banned smoking in municipal government offices since April. Bidding will begin on Sept. 1 with the lowest bid for each ashtray set at 19,400yen...more....
