London's Top Dining is Faux Japanese Ramen

As other UK FGs have noted on the board, this chain is a fairly dire ramen experience

Telegraph: Wagamama elbows its way on to top table
It sounds like a recipe for a dining disaster. The benches are bottom-achingly hard, diners are forced to eat elbow to elbow with strangers and starters frequently arrive after the main course. Yet despite its unconventional approach to eating, the bustling budget noodle chain Wagamama yesterday beat some of the most famous restaurants in the country to be named the capital's best eating place...Wagamama, which means "naughty child" in Japanese, was founded in 1992 by the Michelin-starred Alan Yau and now has 34 branches across the country. It serves a relatively simple menu of noodle and rice dishes and is based on the ramen shops popular in Japan....more...

"Naughty child"? I thought "spoiled brat" would be a better translation. :?:

13 pounds a meal? I hope that is for more than just the ramen. :shake:

On my summer soujourn to Toronto, I noticed that they were trying to fob off anything Japanese as being intrinsically healthy, so this might have something to do sheep that are attracted to noodle joints that change 10 times the going rate.

Bloomberg: Zuma Is Exceptional, and Exceptionally Expensive
...The Web site says Zuma offers something completely new: a sophisticated twist on the traditional izakaya style of informal eating and drinking. Yeah, right...I spotted only one Japanese customer. And she was with me...Service is as much a part of Japanese dining as food, and Zuma was wanting. The waiters didn't appear to know much about the food or the wine list and were unable to offer useful advice, even when we could hear them above the music from the bar...By the time we had ordered cocktails, water and Shochikubai sake (39 pounds), the bill was 300 pounds [over 60,000 yen]...My guest said that at those prices in Japan, the personnel would be on their knees.
