The latest case emerged after beef consumption began to pick up after a sharp drop in beef sales due to shaken public confidence in the meat industry.

Actually, eating milk-fed human babies would be ecological.

Yes that is quite correct, however with the declining birthrate, it appears to be a diminishing resource.. 8O

Well how about the elderly then? Might take a bit of tenderising, but they're in plentiful supply.

Only problem is that with the amount of seafood in the Japanese diet they've probably got higher levels of lingering nasties (heavy metals...) than those with flippers at the top of the ocean food chain.

Nuh, 'Twas old mushed up and dried sheep bits that had been previously infected with scabies that was mixed with the cattle feed... sounds charming doesn't it... :x

Meat and Bone meal is great on the roses - however, I don't think it belongs in animal feed!! Karma has had its fun with us again... :?

mad humans

Postby ronin juku » Wed Jan 22, 2003 11:51 am

yeah, you get all kinds of strange shit going on when you mess with Mother nature........Cows eat grass( and other green stuff) not ground up mammals.

What genius thought "Hey , I know lets feed cows ground up diseased sheep!"

And lets not even get onto the subject of what we feed chickens :?

Fat is pretty simple stuff. And tallow (fat from an animal and the latest suspect) is cheap fat. Thank the "saturated fat is bad for you", vegetable fat lobby groups for the low price of tallow. It can be heated to very high temperatures without degrading much and so should be quite simple to kill the nasties contained within. It's used in soap, fast food, pseudo-ice cream (the stuff lacking cream, like most of the Japaenese variety). And the cheapest of the cheap gets fed to animals.

Don't know who the genius is, but I'm sure he made a bit of money out of it.

Actually, burnt bone meal has been an ingredient of your commerial "brown sugar' for more than 90 years. Most human vitamin pills have used bone meal from doubious sources since their invention in the 1870s.

Blood and bone meal from rendering plants (meaning dead or sick stock) was first fed racehores more than 100 years ago. Later, well-meaning ranchers (like me) started feeding only their favorite prize cows blood and bone meal to help them get stronger. Over the years, blood and bone meal suppliments were so successfull that it filtered down to regular livestock. If you ever saw a health food store decades ago, blood and bone meal suppliments (from rendering plants) were a favorite---they were sold as the, "natural way throughbred and prize livestock are fed."

Sorry to say, everyone got blindsided of the BSE/Prion problem--there was no "evil" intended.

But hey, don't listen to me! I guess I've shared one too many Milk Bones(tm) made of rendered bone meal with my dogs over the years. :crazy3:

I like the subtlety of Japanese products... or perhaps this is actually made from milk, and not cow fat.

Actually, they label it to say its not icecream, but its in katakana - always check for "rakuto aisu" on the side (lactose and ice?). Then run a mile.

If it says "aisu kuri-mu" you've got your haagen daaz equivalent.
