Buddhopoly - the Buddhist version of the very successful "Monopoly" board game, is due to hit the stores by this Christmas. Expected to be marketed in Japan by the Shingon Buddhists, the game has reportedly been in development for many incarnations of the tulkus , who were first entrusted with the holy task in 1934.
Players use various sacred items (rather than the Monopoly game's car, hat and similar material possessions) and each pass of the "Start" (or "Birth") square symbolises the player being reincarnated again into this world. The goal, of course, is to stop the life death cycle by finding Nirvana*. There is still a banker in the game, known as a demon, who can be symbolically killed with a ritual dagger (phurpa), thus releasing them to a better rebirth ...
(* Nirvana sold separately)
