Asahi: Koizumi's reform drive killing Japanese spirit - by Shizuka Kamei
...I agree that Japan-U.S. relations are important. But it does not mean that we have to meet every request for reform made by the United States; privatization of postal services, for example. We must not turn a blind eye to the way foreign capitals are taking over the Japanese financial sector...I will continue to firmly oppose Koizumi's dictatorial and authoritarian political methods and policies to sell the Japanese economy to the United States...more...

Kamei is a nutcase. Someone should give him a bayonet and let him lead a banzai charge.

Any ideas on where the original Japanese of this is?

Tried poking around Asahi's site and didn't see it.

Cheers

Use him for the bayonet!

He gets left alone a lot and in the same breath praised a lot, because he is a former high ranking police official and served as an ambassador in SEA (Thailand?). He had a rather strong conservative inter-faction backing until the split. I really thing he gauged it wrong when he jumped ship and probably would like to get back into the LDP fold.

However, he was extremely anti-sokogakkai, which probably delayed the eventually tie-up between LDP and Komeito. So he may not have many fans to welcome him back if he wanted to try to return.

I think it will be interesting to watch his direction as well as the direction and attention pointed at him, now that he is out of the fold.

Kamei has also publicly come out against the death penalty which is a rarity from a Japanese politican.
In fact, I was really hoping that he would come out with something a lot more compelling than the vague contridictory bosh in that commentary.

Can't see it on the Asahi site either but this piece from Kamei's site covers the same ground:

Cheers. I'm a bit leery of news 'translations' since either the original or the trans. always has a lot more info than the other...
