Trash talk

Postby Taro Toporific » Mon Jan 27, 2003 1:31 am

Looking at my pathetic pile of trash going out tomorrow morning, I can't believe this "trash talk."

Japanese Put Out More Trash Than Americans
Japan Set Garbage Record In 2000 With 52 Million Tons

I could believe the Japan has more trash crows but not more trash.

Sort of hard to believe when considering the disposal culture of Americans. I wonder what they based their research on to determine that per capita Japanese throw out more garbage.

Naaa, without having done any research on this one myself, I will just say I don't believe this story.

On average, each Japanese tosses out 2.5 pounds of garbage a day -- a little more than their American counterparts.

A quick question. How common are waste disposers (there's another word for them but I can't think of it right now... insinkerators?) in the sinks of America. I've yet to sight one in Japan. Could chucking all the uneaten food down the sink be a reason for the lighter American garbage?

Basically, sink-style "garbage disposals" are banned in Japan.

Japanese plumbing, specifically the diameter of Japanese sewage lines is nill. Both the home drains and public sewage lines are tiny because of some perverted Japanese anal-retentive governmental cost-cutting measure long ago. Now it's impossible to fix since the sewage pipes in the streets and sewage plants are too small to handle the output the correct size of indoor home drain lines.

I suspect it is yet another "make-work" measure of the government to provide jobs for the millions of RotoRooter Men who have to clean EVERY "mansion" in Japan every few years because the pipes are too small.

The key word is Basically garbage disposals are banned.

You can buy them, but they won't fuction properly. Many FG have tried get them but their building's 2.5 inch main drain lines won't handle the output from a poor FG's garbage disposal.

Besides, your mansion's management will have a fit and the garbage disposal equipment doesn't fit under a Japanese sink.

IF you're out on the farm, you could use a garbage disposal with your septic system (but I find composting is more logical). Likewise, some rare houses in Japan have proper size sewage systems.

Bottom Line: Same yourself a lot ofgrief and follow the Japanese "custom" of no garbage disposals in new construction.

(Hint: I've installed and uninstalled garbage disposals for FG friends several times over the years here in Japan. FG homemakers from North America often suffer from severe GDWS (Garbage Disposal Withdrawal Syndrome :? ).

I used to work for a garbage company and I when we got sent around to pick up sodai gomi, I've picked up some gems.

I got a Panasonic word processor that I eventually sold to a used goods shop for 5000 yen.

THATs what its good for even if you dont need the item. SELL it.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
