that article was sooo long winded. The paragraphs were funny for a second. But damn, 10 pages of the same not funny descriptions. The Album covers speak for themselves..jeez...

I can't tell how many posts I have seen berating Pitchfork's snobby/bitchy reviews, but I've never had the excuse to check them out till now. Can't say I'm very impressed. :roll:

My views exactly. I read the whole thing, kind of like rubber-necking to see a traffic accident, simply to see if any of the descriptions were actually funny - they weren't.

Loads of material to work with, too bad the writing is shite.

Pitchfork reviews are strange in that very few people really are able to understand what the writer is talking about. There are so many obscure references that the point gets lost reallly quickly. Not sure why they approach reviewing albums this way.

I used to enjoy reading Pitchforkmedia just as a source of information. I found out about bands that weren't well-known in Europe - such as Broken Social Scene, The Walkmen, The Wrens and Modest Mouse. Also, the reviewers were healthily sceptical about bands that were being pushed in the UK as "the next big thing" which was a useful antidote to London's gushing press. But now I find that the "staff picks" of local record shops have come to mirror the site's picks so, rather than broadening my knowledge, Pitchfork now acts as a constraint. All I saw yesterday were Deerhoof, Wolf Parade, New Pornographers etc. They've turned into the Robert Parker of the music world.

Oh, and here's a Japan-themed bad album cover which seems to turn up on the net a lot:
