Seen 'em

Postby mr. sparkle » Sun Nov 27, 2005 5:22 am

I guess we old geezers are the lucky ones.

I got to see the Pixies as an opening band in the late 80's for then darlings and 4AD lablemates, "Throwing Muses" just after Surfer Rosa was released. This was at a fairly small venue called the iBeam in SF, CA. At the time, my friends and I had know idea who they were but we were mightily impressed.

Great show! Kim was a bit more comely then and ran around the stage a whole lot more. But after seeing them recently, they still have their chops and do a good show. Recommended.

i saw them this summer at Landsdowne Rd in Dublin, it was a good gig, and IMO they really showed up the support; Kings of Leon - who just seemed to be going through the motions.

Kim croaked, started to cough and then broke into a fit of laughter when she went for the first "ooohhhh...." for 'Where is my mind?' and they started the song again after a couple of minutes... theyve really aged quite a bit but its good to see them out on the road again.

The crowd were mostly teens and 20somethings, but ranged from peeps in their 30s & 40s to that of their kids in single figures: there was a really nice vibe that night.

Kim just played a Breeders gig with her sister 5 minutes away from my place in London. Part of the 25th anniversary events for 4AD. Very good.

Wish ya'll coulda seen Kim in her prime. She used to run around like a maniac and still hit the notes. REALLY. I guess when she hung out with folks like GVB's Robert Pollard, you'll end up smoking and drinking yourself outta contention.
