Having just gone through a major move...I feel your pain. Fuck I hate moving!

You might try contacting Best Hikkoshi. They are a smaller company and I had no problem booking with them only a couple of weeks in advance. They were also pretty cheap! http://www.bestservice.co.jp/ Moving on a Friday afternoon is 30 to 40% cheaper than moving on a Saturday morning, so that is what I did. It was the 2nd time I used them and have been satisfied both times.

Good luck Taro!!!!!!!!

I loooove moving!
I especially love moving with two weeks advance notice.
The flaming bags of possessions make such pretty colors as I drop them out the window from the 4th floor.

Does Best Hikkoshi do Shinto blessing, Buddhist ghostbusting, and Feng Shui? There has to be some reason the banks approved us in less than 24 hours after several gaijin-dame refusals previous years. :P

Nope, you're on your own in the wilds of Yokohama now. You can give omae mona that title since he has to live on the same street as me within a kilometer ---I think--- but he's being very secretive about true location to me. 8O

I just moved a month ago. The key was time period was about a week before it happened.

As for utlilities, cancelling/starting can be done online. Go here:

http://www.tepco.co.jp/
http://www.tokyo-gas.co.jp/index_e.html
http://www.waterworks.metro.tokyo.jp/

Some can even be done in English. But you'll need your current account number for each. Also both addresses. I found all them to work really well. I think you are in Kanagawa so that might complicate things.

As for the actual moving, nothing beats a little competition:

http://www.hikkoshi-search.com/

Fill out the form (with as much detail as possible) about a week before. You'll get quotes from about 20 companies. The key is to catalog all your stuff and find a place for it on the form. It's Japanese so you might want to get Mrs. Taro to assist.

Other Web pages have similar moving clearing houses so look around. But the one above is probably enough.

So are you in the same station? Or did you move away from my trolley line?

Thanks!
I really needed to get competitive bids.

I threw away a lot of junk when I moved and that required a bit of pre-planning for hitting the right gomi days. Which I didn't do, of course, so I ended up having to do some unsociable stealth dumping at other gomi collection sites in the neighbourhood.

If you are at Denentoshi Station on the Toyoko/Meguro Line then we are on the same line.

As GJ asked, when's the party?

A real mate would say "what can I do to help you with your move?", or something proper like that! In light of that, hope your move is smooth and may I join GJ and the Capt'n and ask when the party is?

Yep, the new condo is on the trolley spur of the Toyoko/Meguro Line.

The FG House Warming/Burning is either Sat-Sun Feb 4-5 which is both Mrs T's and my birthday or... mid-March after I'm finished with my 3rd and final leg surgery.
