Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the death of John Lennon.

What were you doing when you heard the sad news? Well I was not born of course, but if I was, I do remember watching TV after school and the news flashes all afternoon then asking my mother when she arrived home..

GG: "Mum, who was John Lennon?"
Mum: "He was one of the Beatles - I used to love them. Why?"
GG: "He has been murdered outside his home in New York."
Mum disolves into tears.

It was one of the first times I had ever seen my Mum (aka the real Wonder Woman) cry so I remember the day clearly.

I find it interesting that Yoko Ono still lives in the same apartment building where he was shot.

Gomi, who are you trying to stuff Love? You're two days older than dirt, and you claim you don't remember that?

Like they used to say about LBJ after Kennedy, she's not going to do anything until they give her gun back!

Olivia Hussey used to be married to a J bloke:

Hussey was married to actor Dean Paul Martin (son of the famous Rat Pack singer/actor, Dean Martin) from 1971 until 1978. They had a son, Alexander Dean Martin, in 1973. Years later she married Japanese musician Akira Fuse and bore one son, Maximillian Fuse.

Mal Waldron 1926-2002
IHT: Mal Waldron: Looking for Musical Surprises
In the upscale Brussels neighborhood of Uccle, the neighbors know Mal Waldron as the elderly, distinguished gentleman who walks his young twins to school, looking like some august African ambassador. The liner notes on his new album "Soul Eyes" (BMG) describe him: "He takes the tram. He talks, nods and waves to neighbors and shopkeepers. He laughs a lot and likes to tell jokes. Few people here know that tomorrow Monsieur Waldron will fly out to Japan to play the piano."
...He likes living in Brussels because "they don't care what language you speak" (he speaks English, German, Japanese and French). And he does not plan to move back to the United States because "they won't let me smoke over there." He and his Japanese wife rent the eight apartments they own to Japanese businessmen. They rent a large apartment for themselves and their five children...more...

Legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino

Live From Zanzibar Blue
Pat's beautiful Japanese wife, Ayako Asahi, accompanied him during the breaks, lending grace to the occasion.
PatMartino.com:
- Making Pat's Heart Sing: Ayako Asahi -
They met in Tokyo at the On-Air East concert theater in 1995. "I was signing autographs and I saw her the following day at a seminar. I came back to the States and we began to correspond. A year later, she came to the United States and she's never gone back. My wife, Ayako Asahi, is from Japan and is primarily a Buddhist. She is extremely Zen-oriented. In that context, she always needs change. In that way, she and I are very much alike. When I say the word 'generally,' I do so to protect her privacy. I don't want to know exactly how she looks at things. I want her to tell me when she feels it is necessary to do so."

[Raises Spockian eyebrow] Fascinating. "I'm not being racist here, but..." certainly ranks among the greatest of Warning Signs, along with meticulously-groomed pointed sideburns and oversize eagle-talons-comin'-at-ya belt buckles.

And what's this?
"How predictably clueless of poor Victoria to choose to emulate females of yet another nationality who are synonymous with not being able to keep their dogs on the porch, as we say back in redneck country."

Does she mean, they say this back in Bristol? Are Brits allowed to use "we" when appropriating redneck-isms from the Colonies?

That does present an operational question? Suppose you are in the pub in Roppongi, it's almost closing time and the target informs you she can deepthroat a fire hydrant, should you ask for dental charts?

If they are better looking and winning in the competition for a men, what does the issue of ethnicity have to do with it? Jealousy is pretty universal, no?

I thought I'd dig up some comparison pictures--Yuriko vs Julie--- to have a good stereotypical fun (they are both the same age).
Image

However, the BBC explains that Julie left Tony Parsons---not the other way around.
Julie Burchill: The Brighton Bell BBC News profiles / Friday, 14 June, 2002, 17:30 GMT 18:30 UK
...Julie Burchill's personal life proved m

ore challenging. Married first to writer Tony Parsons, she left him and their son for a fellow journalist. Weary of the bitterness even now between him and Julie, Parsons says only, "people who are fat and 40 wish they were thin and 20"....

Burchill is also famous for a hugely "ugly" lawsuit.
