Err.. well, that is to say... HI!

Postby 72hw » Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:40 am

Prolly shoulda done this when I joined up here at FG but I have never been one to make a grand entrance. To be honest I had been one of those FL (FuckingLurkers) before enlisting.

So yeah, here's my story for anyone who might want to hear it:
> Currently living in Hollywood, CA
> Hope to Ex-Pat myself in next few years to Japan
> Into music - listening, collecting live, making house, going to shows, etc.
> No problem owning up to my otaku - but make the distinction that I am obbsessed with J-culture in general and not much of an anime geek.
> Skateboard, Bus & Train are my car for now (1989 Toyota R.I.P.)
> Happily Married to my own Hermes-san (the MN type - not the AZN)
> I am the eggplant - Koo koo ka choo

Welcome aboard.
That expat Package better be sweet since you already have the primary reason for coming here, Hermes-san.

(PS: WOTS a "MN type - not the AZN".)

Thanks - Glad to be here!

As for the primary reason, yes a wife is good - but getting out the USA before the sh*t really hits the fan is better.

(MN type = Hermes-san, only from Minnesota, not Tokyo!)

Postby 503 » Mon Dec 19, 2005 11:43 pm

I arrived in Japan on Oct. 26th and I live in Sanjo, Niigata Ken. I have been a lurker for 2 or 3 years and I used to have an account, but I forgot the name and password. Does anyone live near or in Sanjo? Anyone ever been there? I hope to contribute to this forum as effectively and reflectively as most of you F*ed gaijins do.

Tommy, you ski or board?

Postby 503 » Tue Dec 20, 2005 5:14 pm

Yeah, I can't wait to get on the slopes. At this time though, the people I would normally go with are unavailable. You know any good spots?

I've only hit up parts in Sapporo.
I've been to Tsumagoi as well and I think that was in Niigata but that was a long time ago.

I have been to Gala

Postby 503 » Tue Dec 20, 2005 5:49 pm

I went to Gala Yuuzawa a couple of years ago, while I was on vacation in Japan. It was OK, kinda like Connecticut mountains; relatively small and crowded, because people do not want to go a long ways to ride. I would take one day of long trails and good snow over a lifetime of crowded hills.

You gotta take a day off from work on a weekday. Never go on a weekend or worse.. the "holiday." Holidays in this country is a big joke and you're better off staying at home if you hate seeing people everywhere.

Hi

Postby chikatetsu otoko » Tue Jan 17, 2006 9:58 am

Thought I'd join after a few months of lurking.

Don't live in Japan, used to, aim to again. Still studying Japanese to a not particularly high level (fingers are crossed on level 3).

Likes: Asian Kung Fu Generation, Spitz, Aiko :love2: , Battle Royale, Kikujiro, yakisoba, okonomiyaki, those nikuman dumpling things

Dislikes: gokiburi and other usual gaijin dislikes - the immigration office (argh)

Most likely to pitch in on Japanese study threads but for now just happy to make my first post.

Well I just found the forums a few days ago. I lived in Japan from 9/2001 to 9/2003 and learned almost no Japanese. I moved from Okinawa to Hawaii and lived there for another year and a half. I then returned home to Indiana to work for 6 months. I got a job offer to come back here in October and I arrived on 10/24. I plan to live here as long as possible. I've taught myself Hirigana and Katakana in a couple weeks, and I've started learning Kanji's. I plan to travel to other parts of Japan as often as possible.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm working for General Dynamics as a Tactical Data Network SysAdmin. I love traveling. Up to this point I haven't like staying in one place for very long; however I am loving Japan more every day. As long as I get paid I will stay here.

Re-introduction into the matrix

Postby igor » Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:26 pm

Well, since ummmm, which one is in control of this place again... Anyway, him. Since he decided to redisign this place, I thought I'd mosy back. Do I need to introduce myself again? Bah, doesn't matter. I'll just go merge with the grey concrete over there.

Delighted

Postby Nezumi » Tue Feb 14, 2006 2:12 am

A message to all members.

Just found your site. I am delighted to be with you. I am over 60 and live in Paris with my Vietnamese wife, but I worked closely with Japanese people and was taught to love and respect Japanese culture and art. After meeting a Zen Buddhist priest in Paris (Taisen Deshimaru Sensei) I was impressed by the philosophy (I am a traditional Catholic, and so is my wife), and with the passing of time, my love and admiration for things Japanese has only increased.

The name I use to be with you, "Nezumi", was my cat's name as she was mouse-grey in colour. I still miss her very much.

I shall be glad to get in touch with modern Japan.

With my friendly regards.

Konbanwa. Holy cats, I love this place.

My name's Bruce, I'm pushing 40 and have never left North America. When/if I do, it'll be to come to Japan. For reasons I'll never be able to understand or explain well, I think the world of a country I've never actually been to and whose language I barely understand. I'm living vicariously through those of you who are (IMO) lucky enough to live in Japan.

I hope I don't sound like a starry-eyed kid here. I know Japan's not perfect, but I still want to learn all I can. I know that no amount of stories can substitute for actually going to Japan and experiencing it myself firsthand, but until I can afford the trip I'll take anything I can get. Be gentle! :)
