'Spirited Away' Wins Animation Award
GLENDALE, Calif. (AP )- The Japanese fantasy "Spirited Away" won top honors at the animation industry's Annie Awards ceremony, picking up trophies for best feature film, writing, music and direction.


Now for my blasphemy...Don't any you FG out there get creeped out by Japanese taking their silly ghost stories as Scripture? :?

BTW: If you look at the international 2002 box office list, Spirited Away is fourth, because it was an all-time hit in Japan. It doen't even show up on US lists ... it's below such greats of 2002 as #138, "The Powerpuff Girls Movie" or #129, "Juwanna Mann".

They took out the movie in my city....being in backwater NW..... :(
But considering how Disney only had sparse screenings in large cities, it doesn't surprise me that you'll get barely any mention on US boxoffice lists...
If anybody could be said to have killed the movie's popularity in the US, where everything international is anathema to the general "typical American," then you have to give Disney the applause for that....
I guess it's the way Disney pays back Miyazaki for their inability to censor and "edit" the US version of Studio Ghibli's flicks....

but the short-sighted mentality of major US corporations may end up causing these large, bloated entities to implode upon their own greed and incompetence at some time in the future.... :o
