We got a dwarf rabbit named 'Spike' 3 years ago on Xmas Eve.
That breed usually only lives for 5 years anyway, but he died this evening.
He was so affectionate and friendly.
We would play with him on a daily basis.
We have another rabbit who is supposed to live for 8 years.
However, she is very wild and lacks his personality.
We took her in to see him and she acted in a strange way and eventually lay down next to him.
He used run and jump around when he was let out in the garden,
and would relax peacefully in our arms when we held him and lick our hands.
He stopped eating since yesterday and the Vet said there was nothing she could do. He let out a couple of screams before dying in my little sisters arms this evening.
It was all tears tonight...

(in a twist of sick irony I had already bought a small book as one of a few presents for my sis from a couple of weeks ago - it contains 'funny' comic illustations of bunny suicides... so i wont be giving that too her tommorrow)

Its strange how you can be more deeply moved by the loss of a pet rather than that elderly family member who you only saw the occasional christmas...
