17 Jan 2006 Beverage News: just-drinks.com
Japan's top five brewers saw shipments of beer and beer-like drinks fall by over 3% last year, industry figures showed today (17 January).
According to local reports, the Brewers Asssociation of Japan said shipments in 2005 dipped by 3.1% hit by a colder than average winter. Figures for 2004 were boosted by that year's heat wave...more...

I think Orion is one of the best beers in the world. I wouldn't know about the hangover part because I've never had one.

While Guinness is the finest beer on earth, I don't think Orion is far behind. Now if you are talking about Asahi Magnum Dry then it is complete piss.

While it may be hard to belive it is true. I didn't drink until the day I turned 21, and nope I've never had a hangover no matter how much I've drank. I also don't drink a lot of hard liquor either, so that could be a reason. 10 Orion drafts and 5 hours of Awamori drink leaves me feeling fine the next morning. It is weird for me because I wake up ready to go and everyone I went drinking with sleeps all day and has a headache.

Crikey kudos to you - i get a hangover but only if i drink the poo-ey japanese beer. Even kirin and asahi gives me hangovers now - its very strange, but now I want to see you drink that and not have a hangover - another challenge has been set today!

Kirin is alright, but I sure can't choke down more than a class of Asahi.

I like Kirin. Loathe Happoshu fake beer.

I feel partially responsible - on holiday we seriously boosted the sales of Coopers Pale Ale instead.

Happoshu? Foster's?

Chalk those up with Bud and Heineken please... I thought there were supposed to be rules about what can be sold as "lager beer"? There are reasons none of these are sold in Germany.... At least they know what real beer is! German class I and Czech lagers are the best in the world, brewn from spring water with no extra flavouring or other bullshit

I have to say the mainstream Japanese beers (Kirin, Sapporo and Asahi, in that order) aren't half bad... provided they're drunk from a proper glass, ice cold and in large quantities... no hangovers, no drama.

I'm Dutch and trust me when I tell you it's horsepiss. Even the Export is made from the type of Dutch canalwater that when untreated has cow and pig waste in it. It's far too sweet and just makes me throw up after I've had a few.... I hate it. I have no idea why so many people around the world like it, must be the the brand or something. If you want to try a proper Dutch beer have a Grolsch or even a Brand or Hertog Jan if you can find it.

I like Japanese beer... it's not as heavy as most European beers, but it's not as watery as Foster's or Bud either. It has just the right amount of flavour that makes it really refreshing and tasty, yet light enough to be able to just toss 'em back while discussing Japanese immigration politics with one's in-laws. Suits the climate

Hey, everyone's entitled to their personal opinions!

Maybe it's just the memories that came with the beer that made it taste so good, I don't know. Heineken still tastes like crap though! Image

Now... are there any preferred places you want me to bite? :inlove: :D

You guys keep mentioning all these different beers, but everyone knows Guinness is the finnest beer. It was handed down straight from God to Authur Guinness. Have any of you had Orion. By far the best Japanese beer.

Hey, no-one's arguing that with you ;) We're only talking about lager...

Since 2002, when the previously independent Orion breweries merged with Asahi, their beer hasn't been the same (or any good). Their all malt seasonal beer "ichiban sakura" currently on sale is a slight improvement, but...

You wanna drink real beer in Japan? Try a selection from a microbrewery, like Ginga Kogen, or Yonayona Ale. Pricey, but your taste buds & liver will thank you.
