Australian: Media misses force Japan to change its tune
JAPAN needs to reform outdated business practices and revamp regulation in the telecoms and media industries if it is to regain its edge in these markets, according to...Heizo Takenaka, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications ..."The media market is about Y4trillion, the telecoms market is Y16 trillion, so together they are Y20 trillion. Instead of fighting frantically over this pie, there is an opportunity to grow it to Y40 trillion or Y100 trillion...Time Warner's revenues are more than Y4 trillion, so the whole Japanese media industry is smaller than Time's despite having such a large presence in Japanese society"...Mr Takenaka said Apple's development of the iPod and iTunes was an example of the kind of area in which Japanese companies had missed the boat...more...

In some areas of Japan people still have only a few terrestrial TV channels, even though available broadband technology would allow them to receive more.

I think this guy is on to something. Good luck with getting the rest of Japan Inc to go along with it.

Personally I think Japan ignores the rest of the country and concentrates on a few major cities.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
