Spectacular bridge -- world's tallest -- opens Tuesday in France
12-14-2004, 08h28
MILLAU, France (AFP) -
A bridge officially designated the tallest in the world is to be inaugurated in southern France -- a spectacular feat of engineering that will carry motorists at 270 metres (885 feet) above the valley of the river Tarn...
...The viaduct is not only the tallest in the world -- outstripping the 282-metre (928 foot) towers of the Akashi Kaikyo bridge in Japan -- it is also the longest cable-stayed bridge. The Tatara Ohashi bridge in Japan is only 1.48 kilometres long.

That'll be the 3rd or 4th Topic about our France friends for this week. French weekend! AssKissinger gave u the link for another French related story.

Well I couldn't pass out and I had to take a look at this thread.

The bridge is 243/270 metres high (270<--???) and the length is 2,5 kilometres long. u'd pay around 4,60 Euro for personal vehicles and u got to pay more for transport and semi trucks ~20 Euro.
I love that bridge. However the bridge was not made for tourists and the Japs would have trouble to try to jump over the bridge, because it was simply not build that people can look over the bridge. The walls on the sides of the 2,5 kilometres bridge seem to be high and pretty much "stable", because u dont want a car to crash down the bridge and fall down 243m.

maybe those depressed Japanese in France can find a nice place to take a jump <--- Like I said before, it'll be too much expensive for each Jap AND they can try it thousand times to get over that wall to jump over the bridge. I dont know if it's even barbed wired :P These walls must be able to sustain heavy car crashes, and most important, no car should get out off a bridge by accident.

Be the looks of it, it is mostly running over dry land connecting nothing with nothing. <--- That's true

Where is that bridge exactly anyways? <- It is Millau, South of France...

A town which is overcrwoded from June to August because of the lack of highways there. So, with that bridge, you'll earn something like 2h by road instead of driving all along the gorge (which is quite deep).
A few France, some Sweden, a lot of Japan: http://arunosan.free.fr

Are you sure about that Dimwit? I know he thinks highly of that hooker he maintains in the Kyoto area, but Japan in general? If you're right, that Kyoto stuff must be some good stuff!
