JSTV -- anyone got it?

Postby karekora » Sun Feb 05, 2006 8:28 pm

Hey, Im thinking about JSTV. Im based in London, and Id like to watch some of the variety/music/funky/dorama/movie programmes I used to watch in Japan, and thru searching I figure that JSTV is the only thing available to me. But, for 30pounds a months is it worth it?? I saw this post a little while ago:

All we can get here in the UK is JSTV. My wife was desperate to hear Japanese news when she first came to the UK. It costs an arm and a leg over here and you only get ONE friggin channel.

Only 1 channel? For 30pounds? WHAT?! I dont want it if you only get news, anime or sports....

Anyone got it and think its worth it? On their website, looks like they do show some good doramas, especially a Korean one I used to watch - but, do you need a bilingual TV to hear the Japanese dubbing?

Advice plz :)

hmm.. thanks for that Oni. But, it seems like its only news? Do you know of anything similar to that - but more variety/interesting programmes?

I did a search, and found this site -- http://www.lfx.jp/ -- and, I guess its better than nothing, but not the same as actually watching proper TV programmes.....

Is there really nothing out there for us England people?

I had the same problem with my wife in Sweden. She missed Japanese broadcasting, but the only option was JSTV (which I was to cheap to get). Once we went to a spa resort with a Japanese theme which had JSTV and my wife afterwards said that this television was the best thing about that vacation :-( You may just have to pay and look happy.
The only other choice, which we explored, is looking up some Japanese-run food stores. Some of these also offer rental videos with the most popular dramas from Jap TV. I had the dubious pleasure of watching the entire Winter Sonata series in Stockholm before moving to Japan for good.
