animal rights groups want you

Postby den4 » Sat Feb 08, 2003 4:20 pm

animal rights groups want you
to stop eating meat, stop eating fish, stop wearing wool, stop wearing silk, stop drinking milk, stop eating cheese, stop eating honey because the producers of these products are unking to animals...they also want you to stop cutting your lawn because it hurts the animals that live in the grass...

imagine a world where they rule supreme? They don't want you to use or consume anything with animal products in them...well, you can't drink purified water, because that boiling water or chlorinating it kills the bacteria and other harmful microorganisms...and you can't eat plants fertilized with animal fertilizers, because that must have hurt the animals to get the fertilizers...you can't eat an apple, because there may be insects in the apple that are harmed when you eat it...there seems to be an idiotic pattern emerging from this group...

PETA

People For Eating Tasty Animals

The wild animals in the Serengetti are having a difficult time this year finding food due to the persistant drought. If PETA members really love animals they should volunteer themselves as food and ease these animals hardship.

yellow journalism

Postby jingai » Mon Feb 10, 2003 11:38 am

John Stossel, Bill O'Reilly and the entire Fox News team (aka Comedy Central), Geraldo Rivera and their ilk are simply returning us to an era of yellow journalism, where sensationalism is mainstream. A few years back, biased and purple articles like these would be found on tabloid shows like Hard Copy (which Bill O'Reilly hosted). Now they devalue legitimate journalism.

In this article, John Stossel turned the very common sense notion of sparing animals unnecessary pain and unnecessary death into a one-sided rant. Without acknowledging that anything PETA did made sense he proceeded to quote them only to ridicule them, using loading language like "Activism or Terrorism."

I'm personally not a fan of PETA for their overreliance on controversial, divisive publicity stunts, and tacit support for those who use destructive direct action (as opposed to non-violent civil disobedience) to further their cause, but think we deserve better reporting than Stossel.

But he's just there to make you feel good by confirming what you already believe, right Den4? Even Stossel didn't say "you can't drink purified water, because that boiling water or chlorinating it kills the bacteria and other harmful microorganisms." Bacteria aren't animals, for your information.

I agree with the statements made by the previous poster. Sensationalized media reporting is causing the decay of the modern day intellect..
They shower you with stories that grab your attention, while shying away from issues that are more important, though notably lacking in interest.. to millions of people who lack the attention span of a 5 year old...

It is a shame, but it is interesting to hear the one-sided journalism. I like it and I am sure many others do as well. If anything it makes for a laugh or two. But how many of you take it in the literal sense? We know he is poking fun, at the PETA crew.. that is the point.

If he took it seriously, would you even be commenting on it now? I think not. So indeed it did do something positive. It got some of you to thinking, which is the whole point of journalism. To report findings that are interesting and "factual", but that also get you to think.

Get out the wasabi!

Fish lack the brains to feel pain, says the latest school of thought

An academic study comparing the nervous systems and responses of fish and mammals has found that fishes' brains are not sufficiently developed to allow them to sense pain or fear.

I'll go dump me head into a bucket of water as penance... :D

Still think the extremist views that polarize and paralyze these US allow for such sensationalistic stories, and you are right that they are... :D

I thought the story was funny....but I guess some of you thought I was being serious.... :o
