Hospice Care In Tokyo

Postby AssKissinger » Sun Feb 12, 2006 10:52 pm

This is a very interesting article from The Japan Times.

Physically across from that al fresco casino, but light years away in other respects, is Kibo no Ie (House of Hope). Opened in October 2002 by Masaki Yamamoto and his wife Mie, the 21-room hospice is literally the refuge of last resort for people who are homeless, have no family bonds -- and are dying. In a final irony, it is a place where residents whose lives have often been devoid of love and sympathy can receive plenty of both before slipping off this mortal coil.

These people are so golden. God bless them.

AK,
That was a really good article. Thanks for posting it.
I have a feeling Kibo no Ie is the exception and not the rule.
How elderly are treated in a society says a lot about it. For Japan this is probably more so given the large bubble of elderly in the population.
I am not sure I have a real feel of what the reality for that part of the population even after all the years in Japan.
