Mainichi: Yamanote Line thrown into chaos after tracks sink into ground
Services on the busy JR Yamanote Line in Tokyo were temporarily suspended after it was found that the tracks had sunk over a 15-meter stretch on Monday morning, the railway operator said. At around 7 a.m., the driver of a train on the Yamanote Line outer track that runs clockwise felt irregular rolling while traveling between Shinbashi and Hamamatsucho stations in Minato-ku, and alerted railway traffic controllers...The following 13 trains passed the section at reduced speeds. After noticing that the trains swayed similarly from side to side, the company suspended operations on the outer track at 7:55 a.m. Track maintenance workers examined the area and found that a 15-meter stretch of track had sunk by up to 2 centimeters. The workers fixed the rails and services on the line were resumed at about 10:55 a.m
