Outstanding Achievement in Concrete

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Feb 22, 2006 5:23 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]The Tokushima Shimbun (Japanese) reports that the Seiun Bridge in Yamashirocho has won the prestigious Federation Internationale du Beton (fib) Award for Outstanding Concrete Structure in 2006. The bridge is a 97-meter-long ferroconcrete suspension bridge which has no piers and is supported only by abutments. The judges noted that the it was the first time that this technology was used for vehicle passage rather than a walking bridge. [floatl]Image[/floatl] When the prize was last awarded in 2002, the Tensho Bridge in Miyazaki received an honourable mention.
