Rejoice! Here's a rationale to hate 'em...

HEALTH:
Japan's Homeless Pose TB Threat
TOKYO , Feb 22 (IPS) ....
......Homeless people are an unobtrusive lot that live where possible-- in tents, cardboard shelters, railway stations, parks and public spaces and are embarrassment for the government.
Among them are to be found jobless construction labourers as well as former white collar workers -- equally rendered unemployed by tough times and left to fend for themselves against hunger and disease, including tuberculosis.
''Economic disparity has encouraged the spread of new infections among the disadvantaged such as the homeless community. As well, with increasing HIV rates among the young, we fear that TB will become a national issue again,'' explained Ikushi Onozaki, deputy director at the Research Institute of Tuberculosis (RIT)....more....

When I was in Tokyo. I saw a homeless family. I saw a man and a young child underneath cardboard.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

There's also plenty of homeless in Seoul in Yongsan (many just build cardboard houses in the tunnel from the subway to the electronics mall and beg for change). None of this is as bad as Taiwan where homeless enlist kids to sell useless trinkets for them on the street, similar shit happens in vietnam too from what I understand (remember Cyclo?) and of course China. How many homeless hostels does Tokyo have? or are they all filled with foreigners looking for jobs these days?

peace,
A

Ah, this reminds me of my halcyon days, living in an artist's loft about a block from Los Angeles' Skid Row, back in the mid 1980s. One day the Mayor decided the scary homeless bums were impeding his plan to sell off all the undeveloped downtown properties to the Japanese, so he ordered all the homeless camps to be bulldozed and everyone relocated to a concentration camp in an old railyard near the LA River. Alas, that camp was about a block from my loft. Crime in the Loft District increased dramatically.
Anyway, I will never forget one african-american activist for the homeless (and homeless himself), he was infamous for one statement, "Urban Renewal means nigger removal!" The activist was found a few weeks later, drowned in a fountain in front of LA City Hall, in only 3 inches of water. An autopsy showed high levels of alcohol and heroin. All fountains on the City Hall square have been empty since that time.
