How many days are left? Two?

I'm glad she won; she was my favorite.. Actually, I like one of the girls that didn't make it; Yukari Nakano.. Why wasn't she chosen? I saw her win more this year than any of the other three.. Was it the ever-oppressive case of J-popularity over skill syndrome?

Well we can guess what is going to be on tv for the next three days. I think a beer is in order every time you see images of Arakawa.

Interesting analysis of the free skate on on NBC which may explain why Suguri didn't do better.

Postby canman » Fri Feb 24, 2006 10:30 am

There is no way that Sasha Cohen who fell twice should end up with the silver medal. I mean come on, this is exactly why I hate figure skating. Fumie Suguri skated much better, didn't fall, and got robbed.
Also Dimwit I read the analysis by Sele and Pelletier on the NBC web site and was not impressed with their views. They were palying things up to the US audience.
Rob, I too hope that Hasek can come back from this and make a full recovery. Maybe a little R&R will be just what he needs for a strong playoff run.

It's kinda funny to know the results and see it on TV as if it is live.

It's on TV as I type this.

Arakawa is a funny looking woman. Not pretty, but that picture with that guy up there she looks pretty. But she is quite odd looking.

Have to disagree with you both. Suguri's program was not that strong. She was clean yes, but her program was the least technically challenging of all the top competitors. Falling is a deduction but it is more important to try especially when you are sitting in fourth place. Cohen program was a hell of a lot more demanding and she got rewarded for taking risks.

There is an interesting breakdown of the result again at NBC which basically shows why she was no better than fourth.

Cohen was injured. She had an injured groin and it was taped up.

From experience, when you have something taped up that usually isn't taped up, throws you off.

I just saw Arakawa's performance. It was beautiful. I mean, at one point she went into a spin with her leg above her head.

It's easy to see how and why she won gold. Flawless.

Still, it took Cohen to falter twice and the Russian girl once. However, it sure significantly improved the attitude of my office people. No gnashing of teeth and "what're we going to do with no medals?", so I'm happy. One clown even went so far as to announce that Japan has moved up to number 20 on the total medal listings (I kid you not)!

Her program was not near as challenging or as graceful.

falls only deduct a point each.

And that guy hugging Arakawa is her coach I think.

Japan's Fumie Suguri was composed and didn't fall. She finished fourth. No weapons were used, but she was robbed.
"A gift," Cohen called her silver medal, and she was right.

I agree

Postby canman » Fri Feb 24, 2006 3:03 pm

IT was a real gift. I can't understand how you can fall and stumble and almost fall, but still get such a high score. The ESPN writir Jim Caple said that Suguri's performance was just dreadful. I'd like to know what he was watching. Miki Ando's was dreadful yes, but Suguri's, no way. I think this is a case where even the new scoring system robbed a skater of a medal. Too bad.

At least it was not a worthless bronze that the whole Nippon would have a fuckin orgasm over it. I don't know if this is a bitter sweet ending for Team Nippon but I was praying that they go medal-less just so those bastard NHKers go end up fucking themselves in disgrace.

Arakawa.. you are a national hero.

NBC has company in the Olympic TV business
USATODAY.com - 2006-Feb-24
....[US broadcaster] NBC includes Torino coverage on the various cable networks it owns, and it tries to make it easy for viewers to find what they're looking for with programming that fits basic patterns. But viewers in Japan, where six networks split Torino coverage in a seemingly chaotic way, don't have it so lucky.
Hirotaka Isozaki, program director for the Tokyo Broadcasting System, says the giant advertising agency Dentsu created the schedule. And he seems incredulous when asked if that schedule confuses viewers: "They can just switch channels to find things. Or read the newspaper."....

The greatest comment I've ever heard from a tv man. If the viewers can't find it go and read a newspaper. I think I really hate Dentsu. From what I can understand they are the power when it comes to entertainment and the like, or lack there of.

I'm not sure what AO's talking about. I see plenty of women that look like her in Yokohama (I doubt they can skate anywhere close).
