Sado Masochist Permanent Residency

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Feb 27, 2006 1:02 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Yomiuri: Sado Island seeks to woo foreign residents
To stop the decline in Sado Island's population, the Niigata prefectural government is considering allowing foreign immigrants who wish to live on the island in the Sea of Japan to more easily obtain permanent residency...Niigata Gov. Hirohiko Izumida announced the idea at a prefectural assembly meeting on Friday, and Sado Mayor Koichiro Takano agreed to the idea. The prefectural government has considered giving foreigners permanent residency or long-stay permits with the proviso that they deposit or invest a certain amount of their assets...In Japan, the Immigrant Control and Refugee Recognition Law makes it difficult to introduce such a measure because the law categorizes visa statuses into fields such as official services, arts and education and prohibits visa holders from doing anything unrelated to the fields. In addition, the duration of stay for holders of Japanese visas, except diplomats, is for a maximum of three years per visa, and it is difficult to obtain permanent residency...The Niigata prefectural government will ask the central government to make Sado Island a special district where foreigners can receive permanent residence status with no job restrictions as long as applicants deposit a certain amount of money in Japanese banks.

For those FG who aren't up on Japanese history trivia: Sado was traditionally a barren island of exile, the government used to dump criminals and political enemies on the island, with the expectation they would starve to death.

For FG who aren't up to current J-events, Sado Island is gaijin friendly and holds a yearly outdoor festival concert , "Earth Celebration," that is attended mostly by FGs...thousands of FGs in the town of Oji with only 7,000 people.

Mo' betta than the special Sado Masochist Permanent Residency is the visa deal for Charles the-retarded-N-Korea-traitor Jenkins who lives in Sado. Ol' Charlie will get a Japanese PASSPORT after only one year living there this April. Arrrrrg!

Well, maybe there's hope he will starve to death there. Better the hero of Japan is in SM'ville than in the US of A.

Things may change over 8 or 900 years, but Sado is still a good place to stash inconvenient people like Jenkins.

I always wanted to explore Sado. I wouldn't mind spending a year in exile there, seems like a small sacrifice for a passport, especially after my current decade in exile in the middle of nowhere. I wonder how much money they want you to deposit in a bank?

I've enjoyed many summer vacations in Sado---it's great and there's almost no concrete! As long as you don't have to earn a living there... it would be fine place for an artist or writer looking for some quiet.

As a ballpark figure for a "bank deposit visa", in other countries it seems to run in the range of $50,000+ (Costa Rica "inversionistas") to $400,000 (Canada "business immigrant") .

The US has a similar deal as well...although it runs a $500k-$1000k

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1323.html
Employment Fifth Preference (E5)

Employment Creation Investors receive 7.1 percent of the yearly worldwide limit. All applicants must file a Form I-526, Immigrant Petition by Alien Entrepreneur, with the BCIS. To qualify, an alien must invest between U.S. $500,000 and $1,000,000, depending on the employment rate in the geographical area, in a commercial enterprise in the United States which creates at least 10 new full-time jobs for U.S. citizens, permanent resident aliens, or other lawful immigrants, not including the investor and his or her family.

Peace and quiet and lack of concrete are all good things. Now for two other necessities: Any waves there? Any girls?

Actually, I just did a quick google (images) search using the keywords "sado girls" and it seems there are lots of scantily clad lasses there who are into some strange stuff!

In fact, there's even a video about some near-naked girls who must be infatuated with the island ...

Mulboyne Does It Again

I recognize this picture from GB's private collection which I get charged for viewing to my credit card every month.

I will check with my lawyer on the legal ramifications.

Would a refund for this month, Jenkin's old lady and two draft choices preclude any legal difficulties?

Opening up Sado to gaijin residency would be can o'worms a can tell ya. I could show you any number of communities in in mountains of Shikoku where the population is sinking so quick there is hardly any inbreeds left to breed.

What's the available age spread? I may want to pitch in a hand, or something!

I will settle 'out of court' (very quickly) for a silent, (but very active partnership) in the "Gaijin Bucks" coffee shoppe/studde service, you and Chuck "Buck" Jenkins are setting up on Sado.

Is it a deal?

Looks like the perfect place to retire to me!
They can even keep the P.R. B.S.

Kyodo via Crisscross: Jenkins to work at former Sado Gold Mine tourist spot
Charles Jenkins, a U.S. Army deserter to North Korea who now lives on Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, started working Saturday at the former Sado Gold Mine, which is now a tourist attraction. Jenkins, 66, husband of repatriated Japanese abductee Hitomi Soga, plans to work two days a week until November to provide gardening and other maintenance services as many tourists visit the old mine during the season, sources said. The Sado Gold Mine facility contains a museum, old mineshafts and displays of people digging for gold. The mine flourished in the Edo period.
