My wife wasn't following the Olympics at all and knows/cares nothing about figure skaters. When I told her a Japanese chick won, she came in the room and took one look at her and said, "She looks Chinese."

How dare a gaijin say such a thing, huh? Only one problem, Jack. A gaijin didn't say it: my wife is Japanese.

If you knew as much about Japan as you think you do, you'd know that there are lots of celebrities in Japan that are not "100% Japanese". Sometimes their background is talked about in the open, sometimes it is a secret (that comes out much later), and sometimes everyone knew all along but just pretended like they didn't know (example: who the hell didn't know Akiko Wada was Korean? BTW, if I asked you guys to guess how tall she is, I bet a lot of people would say she's like 6' or more because of how she towers over everyone: she's only 5'8"! Similarly, Arakawa looks tall - and she's only 5'6"! Japan, the land where normal size humans are giants.)

Arakawa may look Chinese, but she's typical Japanese when it comes to one thing: "I went to the ice rink and saw the kids with cute clothes. I wanted to wear the beautiful costumes." Any Japanese knows that the uniform is more important than the actual substance of the activity, huh?

Relax man, can't you see the humour in the way I said it? Get your head off you ass so you may see my point. I repeat for you because you are particularly slow (it's not your fault you are a loser gaijin in japan after all) I don't give a lesser fuck whether she is Chinese or not. My point was in reply to that post which said "even though she looks Chinese she must be Japanese becayse of the positive media she is getting" insinuating that if she was FG she would not get such positive media. THAT IS MY POINT YOU MORON. I don't care what she looks, to me she is very doable and that's enough.

Since he apparently has nothing inside the knickers to stop them, they soould twist quite easily and frequently.

"She REALLY looks Chinese to me though"

thats because there are both ASIAN!!! duh
can you tell the difference between a Brit and an Ozzie? American/canadian?
apart from fashion/accent and maple leaves on backpacks..NO you can't.

yes japanese have very different looks from north to south, thats why cops take japanese to the lock up claiming they are FG's when they aren't!!

thats why my wife gets asked if she can speak japanese(she is japanse) usually happens when she is with me tho!

so in a nutshell nationalisim and the belief in bloodlines, uniqueness not only starts wars but makes one of the most studious nations in the world outright fucking DUMB!

the disgrace here is people like Akiko Wada Sonin etc, are called "koreans" a fucking joke as they are third generation(sonin anyway) born in Japan.

Why is it a disgrace? The Koreans in Japan WANT to be considered Korean. It's not like they are wanting to be Japanese but aren't allowed to be. As for Arakawa looking Chinese because that's basically the same thing as Japanese, well, I think that's silly. To me, the differences in the various asian peoples are greater than the differences between the various european people, mainly because they were isolated from each other for greater periods of time. Yet, even with all the co-mingling in europe, a frenchman is still very obviously different from a german, who is distinct form a spaniard, and so on. Same for Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese.

And Jack, I may be a loser gaijin, but I don't live in Japan. For the record, and all that. My Japan days are behind me and in front of me.

As for the attractiveness of Arakawa, I'm not seeing it. I'd rather get with that Russian chick.

Its a disgrace because its BULLSHIT all koreans want to koreans!!

Do africans in USA just want to called africans? same thing.

ZAINICHI KANKOKUGINS (koreans in japan) are treated as temporary resisdents despite what they want, even though many are 3rd generation they have to carry FG cards, were fingerprinted until 1999 and can't vote.

If they use a japanese name to avoid being discriminated against that may be used if they are victims of crime, but if they commit crimes the media will overlook their japanese names in many cases and use thier korean ones.

Here a question? How can you be a "korean" when you HAVE NEVER FUCKING BEEN THERE???

or When you speak/read/write Japanese way better than korean?
makes sense? No its bullshit!

Koreans want to be Korean/Japanese and should have that right at birth, fuck dont you thnk they suffered enough? 700,000 were kidnapped and brought here and now told to fuck off.

id love to see the winging always the fucking victim japanese complain if Japanese/Americans were denied that right.

They are so two faced as countless japanese women go to Hawaii to gove birth and get American citizenship for thier babies.

"To me, the differences in the various asian peoples are greater than the differences between the various european people"

really?
blonde/brunette/red/black hair, freckles blue/green/brown eyes...where is your guide dog?

Id bet if you put 20 german/french/spanish people in white clothes same lighting you would not get 100% same in Japanese/chinese/korean

it bullshit

Are you a white dude? If so, what makes you think you can speak for Koreans in Japan? Do you even have friends that are Japanese raised Koreans. I do, and my comments were based on what they've told me. Not saying it's the same for everyone, but for them I don't think they're angry that they aren't considered "Japanese".

If you are "white", have you considered that you may be able to identify differences in caucasians easier than asians because you are "white"? My Japanese wife has no problem identifying differences in Asians and I'm even decent at it myself. But I was speaking more on a cultural level as well, not just an appearance level. In other words, to me China, Japan, and Korea are as distinct, if not more distinct than Germany, France, and Spain.

Yeah, because Chinese people live in China and Korean people live in Korea, so it’]do[/i] fit a Chinese or Korean facial archetype. In those cases, sometimes the easiest way to make an educated guess is to look at the Japanese family name. (Do you know about the Korean kanji symmetry indication factor?) But thinking that you can call a person’s ancestry on the basis of a headshot photograph is pure hubris.

The fact that you are even arguing about the differences between Asian people is proof that no one can tell which is which. Arakawa is proving the point. She is Japanese (I think she is) and yet most are saying she looks Chinese. There you go, you can't tell the difference by just looks. I think you have to take speach and manerism into consideration.

Back to the topid though. Arakawa is very cute. I prefer Suguri and Ando myself but Arakawa has this body and smile that I like. As to that Russian chick, well a caucasian is immediately disqualified in my book although yesterday watching the oscars I changed my mind slightly. That Charleez Theron (forgot the spelling) is she hot or what?

mara

1. yes Im white
2. yes Ive met many "koreans" that do care and dont care

thats not the point that we know some people that do/don't care

the problem is the issue in the first place, the new constitution of Japan when it was being made reccomended all people be the same under the law, including taiwanese/korean (slaves in many cases) immigrants

the day before it went into power, the 364th day of this law, it was changed and they were to be "temporary citizens" and have been ever since.

it fucked

"My Japanese wife has no problem identifying differences in Asians"
REALLY
how can you be so sure? does she know whos a chinese student on the train? maybe shes good, or maybe she thinks she is...

there are sterotypical looks in all nations, but thats as far as it goes IMO

so see how good your wife is!!

Did better than me, then. Agree about the mannerisms and such. In the uni where I work, amongst the Asian students, the Japanese stick out a mile (specially the girls) with the way they hold their handbags and walk and their body language in general.

Greener pastures await in the States for 'Show-Me-The-Money' Shizuka
MSN-Mainichi, May 19, 2006 (By Marvin Feltcher)
Shizuka Arakawa, Turin Winter Olympic Games women's figure skating gold medallist, has turned pro and can look forward to enough cash coming in to earn her the new nickname of "Show-Me-The-Money" Shizuka...
Sadly, experts say that's unlikely to be the case, with Asia's first figure skating gold medallist likely to head to greener pastures paying greenbacks.
"Unfortunately, she'll probably go over to the U.S.," skating journalist Toshimi Oriyama tells Weekly Playboy..... "She's not going to stay around in Japan, where there aren't many ice shows, the level of professionalism is poor and the pay is bad. She's got to go to the States, where the performance money is totally out of the ballpark in comparison."....

She had a sudden air conditioning incident at the (A) Cup of China in late 2005. Whether or not the said photograph is fromthat competion of is a printshop I can not say as there is a paucity of photos of her fromthat competition.
