The worst part about this prick? He beat Kelly Lebrock when they were married. I would so love to see a match between him and Jackie Chan . Jackie'd stomp "Mr Tough Guy" Segal's ass into the ground.

Gee I never heard about that abuse angle but....

Here you go. Kelly Lebrock in "The Woman in Red" running from Segal (gossip is better with "proof").

Segal became a Japanofile while trying to learn that Aikido crap, he's a well known womanizer and Segal is one of those losers who writes love letters to the Tibet Dali-lama and Asahara-cult groups

Stephen Segal has an ego like an emperor and he liked being addressed as Lord Tulku-Steven. He always thought of himself as king of the action movies, or a real life tough guy. The myth of Segal was busted after the Italian-American mafia families got on his ass, Stephan Segal used to abused his co-stars until one day stuntman Gene LeBell knocked him the fuck out.

Yeah, he said "womanizer" like there is something wrong with it! (and apparently Segal's aikido training was quite serious at some point: he's a pretty broken down man physically now though - nothing like the japanese old timer aikidoka who can still move fairly gracefully).

I’m not sure if I’d call Segal a ‘Japanophile’. He came here in the late 60’s, studied Aikido, acted like a macho dick by deliberately breaking a few Japanese arms in training sessions and demonstration matches just for show, knocked up/married/deserted the Tenshin Dojo owner’s daughter and went back to the states. [This info from a guy I know here who was a contemporary gaijin and one-time friend, sparring partner and business partner of Segal]

But his whole shtick in films is eastern mysticism, not necessarily Japanese.

Whatever his "shtick" - he acting sucks bigtime!!! Plus the storylines are really lame.

Speaking of lame - anybody see the Gov of California in Commando last night.. I laffed and laffed and laffed.. (but I don't think it was meant to be a comedy)

Keanu Reeves who has very Japanese roots, spent some time in Japan, and other asian places studying various asian things, captialized on it, and then spends the rest of his life denying that it exists vehemiently.

The ultimate image of 'pretty boy' (in my opinion) which appears in Japanese manga, porno, etc.

Yeah, Channel 6 (is it?) tends to favor those lame Sunday night actions flicks. Since Sunday nights are our usual cuddle up on the couch, feed our faces, and talk shit nights, we usually end up renting a movie or two for lack of better movie options. Last night was Madagascar and The Aviator. Madagascar was ok, but I prefer Pixar productions to Dreamworks’ (the one good moment in the flick was “It’s a cookbook!”) With Aviator, I was ambivalent, the film ended without an autopsy.

I knew about Keanu reaves having Japanese roots, I didn't know about Gere.

I always thought Gere looked a little "asian" around the eyes.

(sillygirl wipes dribble off her chin)

Thought he had Chinese roots http://www.tiscali.co.uk/entertainment/film/biographies/keanu_reeves_biog.html

He was born Keanu Charles Reeves on the 2nd of September, 1964, in Beirut. His father Samuel Nowlin Reeves, a part-Chinese part-Hawaiian geologist had married English showgirl Patricia Taylor there, the couple having met after he'd seen her performing at a nightclub. His name, Keanu, is Hawaiian for "cool breeze over the mountains".

yeah Keanu Reeves did some good movies and he did some shit movies

but Keanu Reeves isn't a Japanophile and I don't think he's even an Asia-phile, his blood heritage is a mix of some Portuguese, part Chinese, Hawaiian and Irish-American. He is extremely westernized, they only real 'asian' stuff he did was eat Chop-suey or learn kungfu for his movies and it seem all his hobbies music/hockey....are western except for pingpong which is a English/Chinese sport and his girlfriends/wives are all western.

David Bradley ( made all those shitty American-ninja and American samurai films ), Lafcadio Hearn, Richard Gere....you might also include the Taiwanese TSU chairman who worships Ishihara and Taiwan TSU political members who visit the nastiest of spirits at Yasukuni shrine

Direct opposite to Japanophile mindset might be the Francophile person, Americanised guy, Afrocentrism, Europatriotism, Westernized-asians, Rastafari, Anglocentrics.....
and because Chinese and Japanese hate each other even more than the British and Germans do, a Chinese person or Asiaphile won't necessarily be loved or accepted by Japan and its Japanophiles

Sure, the Segal movies are lame. But there is one good thing about them: The bad guys are usually "good guys". It's bad cops, or some other evil faction within the u.s. government (cia, etc.). Isn't that preferable to the usual hollywood crap where russians or arab terrorists or whatever "outside" group is the bad guy? There are a lot of stupid people out there who've never even considered the possibility that the police or the usa could do anything wrong, so at least Segal's movies present the possibility.

That's probably a good point. But when you think about what he probably got paid per flick, it might have been a tad more than what NOVA is currently paying, no matter how bad his acting has been.

Buraku, how the hell did you get Lafcadio Hearn, a guy born in the middle of the 19th century on to your shit list? I suppose he nicely compares with Segall and Gere, somewhere. He was a half Greek/Irish white guy, previously married to a black gal in the US, before Japan. Your in depth analysis of the orient and things Japanese, sometimes amazes me!

Ok, the Japanofile itself could be broken down

1
Cultural Japanophiles -
( Lafcadio fits here )
These are people who constantly write of Japan, study the language, people who eat J-food study tea cermony
( I think these guys are fine and not annoying - as I've enjoyed the food, old-buildings & studied the Japanese language myself )
2
Media Japanophile - ( Cosplay Seagal watching gundam ) Hollywood guys who make crappy American-ninja movies, or young people who are obsessed with Japan cartoons such as anime, hentai and manga
3
Political Japanophile - The Japanese apologist, political leaders who are favourable to Ishihara's interests, these Japanophiles might include people such as Gordon Melton ( Aum fan ) or the Taiwanese TSU chairman ( Yasukuni fan )

And what is Debito? (besides a pain in the ass).

I think we need a new category, the "citizenship japaonphile", for people who do not want to behave in any way like a Japanese, but do want a Japanese passport.

Ultimate Japanophile... That'd have to be Buraku, wouldn't it? He seems to love everything about this place. :D

Fine with me, glad you and the dogs are in remission.

His pictures though are like an FG rerun of Star Trek and Gilligan's Island combined, they just keep getting better even after the 157th time you've seen them.

Hey, I never thought of it that way! We could have groupies, costumes and get togethers! What a great Idea. I wonder if anyone has the dog's phone number, ahh damn, there I go again, fell off the wagon.
