....Okusama wa Gaikokujin, featuring the lives of foreign wives of Japanese, will air Tuesdays at 8:00-8:54 p.m., with a special starting time of 7 p.m. on opening night, April 18. The title sort of reminds me of Oku-sama wa Majo (The Wife is a Witch)....
....TV Tokyo has been doing popular quarterly two-hour specials on foreign wives for quite a while. Now the network has decided to make the profiles a regular weekly feature.....
What amazes me is not the Japanese interest in watching such shows, but the number of women willing to open their homes and their lives to the prying eyes of the cameras and several million at-home viewers...more...

I was approached to do a breakfast cooking segment recently but I backed out because 1) I rarely ever make brekky for the Boy and 2) how exciting could it be to watch me butter a couple of slices toast and maybe spread some Vegemite on them?

I'm not sure we would rate as interesting enough to be on telly really...

I'm sure it would be "must-see TV" if they showed you guys developing music for your band together, your performances, etc. I'm sure there's some juicy stuff you could reveal to the prying eyes of the J-consumer.

Why only FG-wives and no FG-husbands?

They do that occasionally. But, since the end of the war, the media has, in their efforts to protect the image of the flowers of Nippon, have gone out of their way to generally show that the only women who would marry FG's are, primarily bar whores (the Sensou hanayomesan). The husband is usually portraited as a low ranking US military man, with no money, who after returning to the US strands poor wagako with no money and runs around on her, eventually leaving her for a US woman. This makes for popular telly hogwash and a lot of viewers eat this up, because they're getting what they have been taught to belive! They will occasionally do legitimate shows and show real marriages that are successful, but this is a relatively a recent phenomenon!
If the FG is not famous, or super rich, i.e. Dewi as Sukarno's third concubine, they are reluctant to waste any coverage!

There are more programmes on haafu children these days; more specifically, attractive haafu girls. Almost all of these children are the product of an FG husband/Japanese wife combo but the husband is often featured only on the margins of the programme, if at all. Unless he is famous or rich.

More and more, that haafu-kun Wentzu dude is becoming annoying that I want to kick his little bitch ass into the Pacific Ocean. Same thing with Becky and all the other wannabees.
