Multilingual Medical Help

Postby Mulboyne » Sun Apr 09, 2006 3:53 pm

From Tokyo Metropolitan Government Site:

Are you worried that language problems could prevent you from getting medical care you need? The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is offering information on medical treatment for foreigners living in Japan. The Tokyo Metropolitan Health and Medical Information Center has a multiple language help line with staff on hand speaking English, Chinese, Hangul, Thai, and Spanish. Call 03-5285-8181 for information on medical facilities that speak your language and questions regarding health insurance in Tokyo. Telephone lines are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Also on the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Institution Information website HIMAWARI, you can search for hospitals and medical clinics by location or nearest station at www.himawari.metro.tokyo.jp.

Well thank goodness for that - it's a great step forward. Up until now I haven't been able to find medical facility staff who speak anything other than hiragana. All I need now is to find somebody who can speak romaji.
