Japanese Think Japan is Dangerous

[floatr]Image[/floatr]UPI: Most Japanese think Japan is dangerous
More than 70 percent of Japanese think their country is a dangerous place, a government ministry white paper has shown. In addition to natural disasters such as earthquakes, torrential rain and typhoons, residents' confidence has been shaken by construction scandals and accidents such as a 2005 train derailment in the city of Amagasaki, in which more than 100 people were killed, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Tuesday. The Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry conducted a survey in an individual interview style in December 2005 and asked people how safe they thought Japan was. Asked, "Is Japan safe or dangerous?" 28.5 percent of respondents answered, "Dangerous." Another 42.1 percent answered, "On the dangerous side," bringing the total percentage of those who considered Japan to be dangerous to 70.6 percent. The combined total of those who said Japan was "safe" or "on the safe side" was 23.8 percent...more...

I forsee a special committee being convened to combat this... They'll talk plenty, get paid plenty and probably not do too much about it. (some signs or something saying Japan is safe)..

They just haven't worked out a way to blame the natural stuff on the FGs yet. Just like in the Crime Waves, as soon as they can get the earthquakes, tsunami's and all other accidents shown as an FG problem, the more secure the J-people will feel. An external threat that they "understand" (FGs) is much more soothing than an internal threat that they don't understand!

I once met a bloke from Ireland while I was living in Sydney. We were discussing crime there and the subject came around to how dangerous Sydney is at nighttime. His comment was something like: "I come from Northern Ireland and I've travelled through quite a few African countries, Sydney is NOT dangerous." Puts things rather in perspective, doesn't it?

I believe that the Japanese will say anything you ask them in surveys though.

where else do you expect to find it?
