A disturbing manual on how to extract confessions is the latest damning police secret leaked from the personal computer of an Ehime prefectural police inspector. "Once in the interrogation room, don't come out until you get the suspect to confess," reads the manual, one of thousands of files leaked to the Internet. "Keep the suspect in the interrogation room from morning till night if he denies the allegations," it said. "Weaken the suspect. To do so, investigators must nurture mental and physical toughness in their daily life." The revelation came at Wednesday's Lower House judicial affairs committee session... The Ehime manual is apparently for training detectives. "You may have the desire to leave the room if you get the impression that what the suspect says is right, or if the interrogation hits a snag," it said. "But you'd be a loser if you left then."
