You don't have to do that. Go to Control Panel->Regional and Language Options->Languages. Select Install files for East Asian langauges, press apply. It may ask for your Windows XP disc, and it may prompt you to reboot when finished. Next, you need to add the keyboard to by pressing "Details" on the same screen, then add the Japanese keyboard.

Hope that helps.

need some more help.

ok so i bought a japanese key board thinking it would work wonders, but it is the same as my english keyboard.

I cant auto change from hiragana to kanji. At the moment to input kanji i have to bloody choose from a box, and select how many strokes.

does anyone know if i can use my Japanese keyboard which i plugged into my laptop and use it like it was a normal japanese computer???

thanks in advance !

Why don't you just change IME over to hiragana?
I have an English OS and english keyboard and have no problems. IME is your friend.:)
