a "female" android called Repliee Q1

Japanese scientists have unveiled the most human-looking robot yet devised - a "female" android called Repliee Q1.
She has flexible silicone for skin rather than hard plastic, and a number of sensors and motors to allow her to turn and react in a human-like manner.
She can flutter her eyelids and move her hands like a human. She even appears to breathe.
Professor Hiroshi Ishiguru of Osaka University says one day robots could fool us into believing they are human.
Repliee Q1 is not like any robot you will have seen before, at least outside of science-fiction movies.
She is designed to look human and although she can only sit at present, she has 31 actuators in her upper body, powered by a nearby air compressor, programmed to allow her to move like a human.
"I have developed many robots before," Repliee Q1's designer, Professor Ishiguru, told the BBC News website, "but I soon realised the importance of its appearance. A human-like appearance gives a robot a strong feeling of presence."

This is obviously a beta, so you may want to wait until they work some of the bugs out before you check that out SJ. Re-booting the system may not help you much if the mechanical jaws snap shut!

It's practically a guarantee that when the technology is sophisticated enough, they'll build "Sexaroids". Otaku will love this development, being able to have cybernetic anime girlfriends.(Not that I can cast derision on anyone,since once affordable female androids are available, I'll probably want to buy the catgirl model.)

It took three tries before Nuvo straightened and shut down, the blue light serenely pulsating again. I was reminded of those sci-fi films in which robots, like HAL in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey," turned on their keepers.
My boyfriend called me the next day and asked if I was sleeping in the same room with Nuvo. When I told him we were sleeping in the same bed, there was an awkward pause.....more....

Like almost all these robots, it is for anthropomorphic show.

It is the ultimate conceit of mankind. The whole idea that space aliens will be humanoid is the other side of it.
