I can't make out what she's saying at the end, too much crosstalk. It's something like "naran?????ppokunai?" Does anyone have better hearing than I do?

She said "Won't it be so lonely now that Charles is immigrating to Australia", or words to that effect.

But, that is the translation, the Japanese statement after she slipped the photo out of her trunk, was "....Otakuppokanai?..." with a couple of ne's. But I did notice her hump, her lovely little ladies lump, and found it to be completely within acceptable parameters.

She's saying, "Otaku pokku ne".

It normally is "Otakuppokanai" "(He) does not look like an Otaku (doesn't he)?" "Otaku pokku ne " is very girlish speech meaning "(He) looks like an Otaku (doesn't he)?"

After Taro's post I went back and listened to it again and and she began with "dare, ano hito", but she definately ends it with a "nai", along with her hopes Charles doesn't have trouble with the Roos again!

Mrs Taro says it's "nai" too. So the punchline goes....

"Ne, ne, ne. Dare, ano hito otaku pokkanai."

Hey, hey, hey. That guy looks like an otaku, doesn't he?"

I suspect Mrs Taro also says it's "otaku ppoKUnai."
I shouldn't quibble over what is surely a typo, but it is best not to confuse the language newbies, in case they are still struggling with conjugation of adjectives.

Hmmm...maybe they need to address the otaku market in a more otaku friendly way...like this....

Especially when the gal is speaking with an accent. I would guess Nisei or kikokushijo. Needless to say, I'd still do her!

Out of curiosity, I would ask Mrs Taro if she spots an accent. The pronounciation or accent seems like a kikokushijo or a nisei.

She sounds fine to me, but that guy, oh man, his horrible pronunciation makes my ears hurt. I always say it takes 20 minutes of listening to native speakers to repair the damage done by 1 minute of listening to some gaijin speaking the language badly.

Yes "kikokushijo"--- Mrs T mentioned that her speech is fossilized at a young cutie teen level even though she's past the age of shijo (boys and girls) long time ago and she's well into her 20s. However, calling someone kikokushijo/returnee even though the person has not returned (kikoku) to Japan is another issue.

But she's the "new digital camera from Japan" and presumably just a little kid, in digicam years.

Strange as it may seem, the business community J-people like to hang that hook on any J-type that has learned their language in a foreign land and as you say, even if they haven't yet returned to their wonderful home in the land of the rising sun/taxes and are well past the age of "shijo". It can also used to have a very nasty connotation in referring to an individual. i.e. "What do you expect, he is a kikokushijo", meaning the person has been exposed to and tainted by the sins and degradations that exist outside of the secure perimeters of Mother Nippon!
