Asahi: Arid Gobi Desert conditions mean blanket of sand for Japan
Yellow sand blowing into Japan from China can be a nuisance or even a health hazard, and experts warn this is shaping up as one of the worst years on record. Each spring, fine sand particles whipped up by winds in the Gobi and Taklimakan deserts sweep eastward across China, the Korean Peninsula and Japan. But this year, exceptionally arid, hot conditions in inland China throughout March have produced more sandstorms than usual in northern China--13 so far, the most since 2002. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued four cautions about the phenomenon, known here as kosa, compared with just one last year. The sand is responsible for more than hazy views and dusty windowsills. It is also blamed for respiratory problems...more...

My biggest problem at home at the moment is mold. Got back from Golden Week holidays to an infestation of green fluffy yukky stuff. Have purchased a heap of the closet camel things to try to keep our clothes mold free but am not sure if this is going to be a good solution.

Was never a huge problem at the last apartment - this one is a bit different - probably as it is on the ground floor and next to a garden. Any suggestions???

You suggested it milady.

Maybe buy a demhumidifier, but those things that pull moisture out of the air are probably your best bet.
In the apartment I lived in, we had one in almost every room and a couple in every closet.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
