Return of Peace Control Law

Called the Kyoubouzai Hoan (conspiracy or collusion law), the legislation appears headed for passage in the diet (parliament) as soon as next week. In its present form, it could result in Japanese citizens being detained or punished for merely agreeing with one another.

It seems to me FG is one big thought crime.

Fukui public library removes 150 'radical' books from shelves
Crisscross - News - Friday, May 12, 2006 at 06:58 EDT
TSURUGA ---
A public library in Fukui city has removed about 150 books deemed to be "radical" from its shelves in response to a request by prefectural officials, local assembly officials said Thursday.
The books removed from the shelves of the library, run by Fukui Prefecture, in late March include those authored by Chizuko Ueno, a University of Tokyo professor and an expert in gender studies, and Social Democratic Party leader Mizuho Fukushima, the officials said.
According to the prefectural government, its officials in charge of promoting gender equality said some books at the library were too "radical" because they are aimed at destroying the current family structure.
The books removed from the shelves include "A Theater under the Skirt" written by Ueno and "Marriage is a Gamble" by SDP leader Fukushima.
Also removed were a book on how to divorce...more...

1984

Postby Catoneinutica » Fri May 12, 2006 2:24 pm

Well, in keeping with the "1984" allusions, Japan IS the land of groupthink, and the alternating anti-China, anti-US hysteria (just ask Gov. Blinky) reminds me of the perpetual realignments between the three hyperpowers in "1984 (what were they? Eurasia, Oceania, and...?).

And on a related "1984" note, this morning I was walking in front of Kaihinmakuhari Station, and the new megamonitor mounted on the Plena building was blaring an NTT ad with SMAP. I felt, at that point, well and truly pwn3d by the entity named Japan; since NTT is owned primarily by the Finance Ministry, SMAP effectively functions as the collective face of Big Brother. There's nowhere to hide!

Thanx! Yeah, the gaijins are the proles, and the omnipresent smell of boiled cabbage is replaced by the omnipresent aroma of JT ciggies, marketed by Big Brother himself.

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

Sorry, somebody already beat me to the 1984. Was just the first thing that came to mind.

Japan's a hierarchy: Taro salaryman (21st century peasant) isn't much better off than the foreigners, plus theres a lot more of them for the government to control.
