Ringtones, Hurrah!

Postby aquamarine » Fri May 19, 2006 11:51 am

Hey there folks, just thought I'd post on here as it's the most basic idea I've had all day.

While I was in Japan during December visiting my girl, I picked up a Vodafone Sharp 903SH. It's a darling phone and best of all, I've been able to use it here in Canada. That being said, while I was in Yokohama, I downloaded (and paid for) some ringtones from Vodafone's site, which weren't exactly cheap. Since I've had my phone flashed & reprogramed to the Euro software (to enable POP3 email), I've had the sad satisfaction of realizing that none of the ringtones will work anymore.

They are still the same format, but sadly they have been 'locked down' so to speak since the information in the phone has changed so drastically.

Here's my question...

Do any of you happen to have any extra ringtones kicking around on your computer that you wouldn't mind sharing? J-Pop comes to mind, but I'd more-so like the theme music from commercials (Tepco, Eneos, etc) as well as the theme songs for such shops as Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera, Don Quixote and so on.

Any help would be great appreciated (as usual). Thanks y'all and see you again in about 3 years (upon finishing university and heading BACK to Japan).

You can make your own ring tones - I tried to find the thread on this that Mr Sparkle was talking about recently but I can't seem to find it.

You can't share ring tones that have been purchased as they do have fairly strict DRM protection. But you can make your own by just making a clip of the right length in the right format. Save this onto your phone (email it if you have to) and then select this file to play as your ring tone.

Use Audacity to make any ringtones you want, it's a free program ;)

I can already make the ringtones. I use mp3grabber, it does a good job in my opinion. Now that being said, I cannot find mp3 versions of those ringtones I had mentioned I was interested in.

Does anyone live close to a Tsutaya? It would be very kind if someone could quickly check to see if there are any 'theme-song cd's' available out there. Hell, I'd be more than willing to PayPal someone a few yen for their train ride if they could help a fellow FG out.
