But then Japan also has a fairly low level of lung cancer (sorry no stats to back up this statement). All to do with their high seafood diet. Yes let's ban smoking, let the Japanese live even longer... that'll do wonders for the aging population.

I thought all that smoking salarymen drank was coffee at work and sake/beer/happoshu in the wee small hours away from the company.

No, I still say it's the fish. Fat is good for you.

Maybe that's why no-smoking, only-paper-cups Starbucks Japan is going bust while some-smoking, ceramic-cups Tully's Coffee Japan isn't...

Starbucks Japan posts 70 pct 9-mth profit drop

TOKYO, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Starbucks Coffee Japan (2712.OJ) said on Wednesday that its operating profit fell 70 percent in the nine months...

Actually, lung cancer AND prostate cancer have caught up to stomach cancer, which WAS the leading cancer in Japan.. I don't have the sources online, but I saw a report on NHK a couple weeks ago.

Stomach cancer has continually declined while prostate and lung have increased.. They're now all hovering around the same number.. Sorry, I don't recall those numbers. My photo memory only recalls the cardboard graph NHK used.

Good point.

smokers' rights..

Postby groovewonder » Wed Feb 19, 2003 11:24 pm

if japan ever catches up with america in terms of it's anti-smoking laws and regulations, i'm gonna be pissed. one of the best things about japan is you can buy cigarettes anywhere and smoke anywhere. i heard you can't even smoke in bars in cali these days (is this true?). leave us smokers in peace.

Yeah, that's cool. I like spitting in smokers faces, because, what the fuck, I'm a spitter, and I don't give a shit about anyone around me. Oh, and there's no law against it.

True. A little extreme, but I'm not losing any sleep over the poor, mis-treated, smokers of the world.

Rest in peace, bro.

a little bitter, aren't you? i put my cigarette butts in my pocket so you can't get me for polution. if i'm on the street smoking a cigarette, my breath is no more of a danger to you than traffic pollution. get a grip.

Probably. But whining smokers hit a chord with me.. It wasn't personal.
groovewonder wrote:i put my cigarette butts in my pocket so you can't get me for polution.

That's great, thanks! I am totally puzzled by smokers ability, without ANY guilt, to throw their butts wherever they want.
groovewonder wrote:if i'm on the street smoking a cigarette, my breath is no more of a danger to you than traffic pollution.

That's what I love about smokers; The inability to realize that since THEY are the source of the smoke, the smoke is NEVER in their face.

If you're on the sidewalk with no one else, by all means smoke away. But if it's crowded, watch for a gaijin spitter bearing down behind you.

I guess I generally view smokers as selfish, inconsiderate people.. Nothing personal. If you take the proper steps to assure that the 20 non-smokers around you are as comfortable as you, while you get your Nic fix, I appreciate it..
