Disappearing Elevator Girl

Postby Mulboyne » Wed May 24, 2006 9:31 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Yahoo: Greater Yen for Japan's Department Stores
...For visitors and Japanese alike, department stores like Daimaru, Takashimaya, and Mitsukoshi have always been the ultimate destinations for high-end spending...When Japan's economy hit the wall last decade, these high-cost department store chains took a real nosedive in earnings...However, with Japan now in the midst of one of its longest post-war economic expansions, consumers are returning and profits at these chains are heading up. No, this isn't a reprise of the late-80s bubble era of conspicuous consumption, but high-end retailing is definitely making a comeback in Japan...Analysts add that restructuring has also been an important factor in getting department store profits back on track..."The elevator ladies don't exist any more," adds David Marra, a retail expert at consultant A.T. Kearney in Tokyo...more...

Now I come to think of it, I haven't seen an elevator girl in a Tokyo department store in an age. Anyone notice when they began to disappear? They were iconic enough for TBS to base a TV drama on one back in the early 90's.

Mulboyne, head to Takashimaya in Yokohama. They're there, but only during the busy shopping hours.

I have seen Elevator Girls in Mitsukoshi in Ginza and Takashimaya in Yokohama and Nihombashi. I think elevator girls are in all Takashimaya stores.
Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms should be the name of a store, not a government agency.

One up on ya there Jack. Been there done that and got the tee shirt!

But one of them once told me that they were constantly gropping (grouping for Charles) targets and their instructions where that if some dude gets one or both hands full of them, to ignore it. I don't know if that is still true, but it sure would have been handy to know earlier!

cue here to gomichild whose job at uni was working as an elevator girl.. her fave trick was to make the elevator drop quickly so that the people would lose their lunches... (It was an old style elevator that used a lever rather than buttons)

Odakyu department store decided to reintroduce escalator girls throughout their remodelled Shinjuku store. They'll be around until the 26th.

Yeah, I used to have a fetish for Elevator Girls.
Isetan & Mitsukoshi had the most number of beautiful EGs.

In the 80's they were also easy to hit on as they have such boring days.

Those were the days.........!
