If they have an account at a Japanese bank, the best way would be bank to bank wire, though that costs about $40 a pop.

Well, that's the best way that I know about.

There's many ways to do this, postal orders, wire, bank transfers, etc.
There has been a ton of posts on this topic, so you might just want to try searching the board.

I'm not trying to jerk you around or belay an answer, but there are so many variants: how much, how fast, what currency, etc.

If you deposit a check at a Japanese bank, including Citibank Japan, be warned that you won't have access to the money for 3 or 4 weeks.

Hey, nothing to sumimasen about. As I said anyone would need more info to advise on this topic and some people (and I don't knows if you do or do not)don't like to post their money matters on the board. So if you do a search you may see your answer already posted.

Wire transfer was the way I always sent money to and from Japan. You need the routing number, account number, bank name, name of branch, account beneficiary, and possibly a SWIFT code for the recipient account.

No, there is no minimum amount for sending a wire transfer (as far as I know).

Anybody used moneybookers.com ?

PayPal does work OK too but you have to be super careful on entering the bank details in japan or the transaction will fail.]

Western union sounds like the best for this guy.

Sending money

Postby billyDe » Sun Jul 02, 2006 9:25 pm

Send a wire transfer which usually arrives the next day. I send a couple wires a week to myself from the US to my Japanese account. I always send the money in US dollars...then I transfer the funds to YEN at Tokyo Mitsubishi when it arrives. If you ask your foreign bank to exchange the funds to YEN, guaranteed they're gonna take a larger fee than a JP bank.
