UPI: U.S. to remake cult film 'Battle Royale'
News that the Japanese cult classic film "Battle Royale" is heading for a Hollywood remake has the Internet buzzing. At this point fans have little to no information. All that is known is that Neal Moritz of "The Fast and the Furious" and Roy Lee will be producing the remake. There is some skepticism as to whether or not the remake is a good thing, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. "Hell freezes over," wrote the editors at battleroyalefilm.net. "Let us pray for the best," said Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News.

Is this really considered a classic?

They use the phrase "cult classic" and I think that's reasonable. In the US, part of the reason for its status is that Toei never concluded a distribution agreement.

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

High school? I thought they were supposed to be JHS 3rd years?

...

I guess that would make them US high school freshmen?

Something is going to tell me that the remake is going to suck a big one.
Why do they have to remake it when there was nothing wrong with the original? Greedy Hollywood pricks. Let it be another box office bomb.

Here's what they think is wrong with the original: it's not American. See Taxi (French), see My sassy girl (Korean), etc, etc.

They certainly won't make any money off me... all I will do is erm... acquire it via clandestine means, see if I can stand it for more than 5 minutes and that will be it.

It will probably have Queen Latifa in it and suck anyway.
