Probably saves Bolton some more wasted money!

Portugal are definitely a hard team to beat and they like to provoke. It's all part of the game. Concerning the red card, i think the referee did his job. In 98 Zidane walked on a defender that just tackled the ball from under him, he was red carded as well.
The refs consider that thoses guys know where they put their limbs. They're right in general but in the heat of the moment some scrotums can be inadvertantly flatten.

I fear for my homecountry though. France always performs better when they're the underdogs, when they're favorites they lose focus. The exception being the euro 2000.
On top of that Portugal doesn't play nice and there are 5 yellow cards amongst some of the most important french players (Thuram and Zidane for example) which mean they're going to have to tame it if they hope to win and go to the final.
Well, it's a worldcup semi-final, it can't be easy right.

I think Italy play pretty dirty as well.. Was pulling for Germany..

If anyone's betting on this WC, bet on the team I don't want to win. ;)

Pranksters play hard ball with soccer fans

BERLIN (Reuters) - World Cup pranksters in Berlin injured at least two soccer fans by inviting them to kick soccer balls that they had secretly filled with concrete, authorities said Tuesday.

At least six concrete filled soccer balls were found chained to lampposts, trees and handrails across the city next to the spray-painted message "Can you kick it?," Berlin police said.

"Two young men kicked the balls and suffered bad bruising on their feet," a police spokeswoman said. "We still don't have any leads in the case."

The way the game went, that turned out to be a big decision. Frings just wasn't there to perform as he'd done in previous rounds. I have no real beef against Italy but their leagues are corrupt so I'd rather France do a number on Portugal and then down Italy. As Ptyx says, though, there are a lot of players who might have to miss the final even if they do make it through.

Italy didn't endear themselves

Postby canman » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:37 pm

In the previous matches, but they did play a good game against the Germans. I felt that in the extra time the Italians really wanted to finish the game, and the Germans were a little tired. It was a good game all with only a few bad calls, but that seems to be par for the course. Now if only Frnace can beat those nasty Portugeuse, then it will make for an interesting final.
I noticed it didn't take Ziko long to get a new job. I hope he fares better than he did with the boys in blue. I was reading the interview with Osim, and he really blasted Japan's thinking and Ziko's style.

Will France Hold On?

Postby mr. sparkle » Thu Jul 06, 2006 5:24 am

Zidane scored a penalty kick to give France a 1-0 lead over Portugal at halftime. Looking like a great game so far at 64:00. Let's GO Portugal!

Portugal put together a few exciting plays in stoppage time, but not enough to hold off France. France deserved it though, by outplaying Portugal the entire game.

Let's Go ITALIA!

There were loud cheers in an English pub when France were awarded the penalty. That must be a first. Thank goodness France only lose Saha for the final. Incidentally:

Telegraph: Blatter wants 'two referees' for 2010
Sepp Blatter, president of Fifa, has revealed three measures to The Daily Telegraph that could improve their efficiency at World Cup 2010 in South Africa...The most revolutionary is the possible introduction of the two-referee system, previously tested by Fifa but rejected by Pierluigi Collina, Italy's celebrity referee. The others are use of balls containing electronic chips, to determine goal or no-goal, and an amnesty on yellow cards following the quarter-finals. Some 10 years ago, I discussed with Blatter the two-referee system, first piloted by the British Army FA in the Fifties. "At the beginning, there was a reluctance to consider the system," says Blatter, who was enthusiastic. "Then we had tests conducted in Malaysia and Sao Paulo, Brazil, with encouraging results, but an unsatisfactory reaction in Norway and Italy"...more...

AHN: FIFA Appoints Referee For Final Game
FIFA is appointing Horacio Elizondo to referee the World Cup's final game of the tournament. Italy will take on France on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Elizondo, originally from Argentina and a physical education teacher, was in the center of controversy last week when he gave England's star striker Wayne Rooney a red card during their clash with Portugal...Japan's Toru Kamikawa will officiate Saturday's third-place match between Germany and Portugal in Stuttgart.

Why Tsuru, with the Italians and French turning home on final, do I notice a wee bit of contempt coming through here?

I'm stunned at his idiocy. Just proves that French people actually do suck. He at least shoulda head butted him in the HEAD.

I wonder WTF that guy said to make him so suddenly pissed off? I mean, two seconds earlier the two guys were smiling at each other.

Yeah, but they scored our only goal against them. We don't suck, but we're not all that great either.

BTW, I think we need some USA drinkin' songs like all the other teams have. Now that would be cool. ;)
