NARITA, Chiba Pref. (Kyodo) Narita airport closed one of its two runways around noon Wednesday after three people were spotted near a taxiway, the airport operator said.
The runway reopened 10 minutes later after the three were found to have had permission to conduct a survey of bird life in the area, according to Narita International Airport Corp.
The airport operator said the crew of a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight from Amsterdam spotted the three near the taxiway and reported it.
The airport authority said it is investigating why the three were in that location.
Airport worker crosses Haneda runway to do some exercise, delaying 92 flights

A part-time worker at Haneda Airport crossed one of its three runways early Saturday morning, forcing the airport to temporarily close all the runways for 2 1/3 hours and delaying 92 flights by up to two hours, airport officials said.
Even though his action constitutes a violation of the airport's in-house regulations, it reprimanded the company employing him without notifying the police, after deeming that he had no malicious intent.
"We've never heard of someone working at an airport crossing a runway without permission," an official at the airport administration office said....more...
