All 15 Americans treated as defendants at a mock international tribunal were found guilty Sunday of committing crimes against humanity through their roles in the dropping of atomic bombs on Japan in 1945....

The event, titled "The International Peoples' Tribunal on the Dropping of Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki," began Saturday. It aimed to assess the impact of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on humanity.

Well they are using one of my favorite euphemisms 'people's tribunal'. And like all good people tribunals, a quick perusal of their site shows that there are no defenders and decision was been rendered beforehand.

It is interesting that all the major english dailies are covering this story given the politics of the participants.

It's interesting that the rightist Yomiuri would cover this leftist lawyers group. I guess the guilt of Truman and the other US leaders was something everyone could agree upon.

Reading the site, it looks like an interesting educational event, and that they're getting people to pay $20 to learn about the effects of atomic warfare and listen to arguments about international law is interesting. It looks like they're also working to preserve the pacifist constitution.

Maybe next time they'll try Hirohito, too?

Long-dead American leaders don't have kooky followers in black trucks ready to leap in and bash some heads. It will be a cold day in hell when these guys actually pursue something like that.

Not everybody. It is just that the media will always take advantage of any chance or topic to portray Japan as a victim of WWII because it offered them the opportunity to become the first country to take a couple of A-bombs in the knickers.

The site may sound interesting. But, yawn, it is the same people and groups (abeit re-named from Gensuikyo days) and they have not brought anything new to the table since the cold war days.

Very few of them would have the balls to try that openly. The boys in the sound trunks would love that and they know it. So when they do address Imperial issues, it is always done with a lot of tip-toeing !
