WWWJDIC on Keitai

Postby FG Lurker » Wed Jul 19, 2006 2:16 pm

I'm not sure if it's my new Keitai's browser, or if the keitai pages have been tweaked, but Jim Breen's WWWJDIC now works on my Vodafone. The WWWJDIC site says it works on DoCoMo, Vodafone, and AU:

Keitai J -> E: http://www.aa.tufs.ac.jp/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1KJ
Keitai E -> J: http://www.aa.tufs.ac.jp/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1KE
Keitai Text Translation: http://www.aa.tufs.ac.jp/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1KG

A good free resource!
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

WWWJDIC has been a true life-saver and I use it EVERY single day. It's a must have Shortcut Link..

Now I got it to work for K-tai, but the link sure was a pain to input!

Shortcut: Email the links to your keitai. Then you can either cut and paste them or add them to your keitai bookmarks from the email message...

I like the way that Jim does the text breakdown - I think it is more useful than machine translation for people who have a fair understanding of Japanese. It breaks down the sentence and gives you the readings and meanings for the kanji and the katakana words.

Machine translation is only useful if you have ZERO idea what the sentence is about and then it is only about 70% accurate. If there is slang - forget about MT.

Jim is such a great guy - we collaborated for many years on his database. The only thing that is hard for keitai use is the lack of indexing so that you get all the hits and not the most direct hit first. Also, if you have no idea of a kanji, it is really hard to search.. but that is a free service so you can't have everything.. ;)
