Handbag incident on plane gets passenger kicked off

Sydney Morning Herald wrote:
A passenger was escorted off a Tokyo-bound plane in Hong Kong after she refused to put her Gucci handbag under her seat, holding up the departure of a flight for more than an hour.

The Cathay Pacific plane was ready to take off but was forced to stop on the runway because the young passenger would not comply with a flight attendant's request, the Apple Daily newspaper reported on Monday.

After 15 minutes of argument, police officers, airport security guards and airline officials were called in to resolve the situation, but she still refused to give in.

After an officer threatened to arrest her, the unnamed passenger finally agreed to leave the plane with her handbag, much to the delight of her angry fellow passengers who clapped as she was escorted off.

"It's not my fault, it was them who were too stubborn," she shouted as she left.

And from Reuters:

. . . The woman later apologized and she and four friends who also got off the plane were put on a later flight to Tokyo.

"There was no problem on the other flight," the Cathay spokeswoman said . . . more

Given that missing narrow landing windows (time-wise) can cost airlines significant money, not to mention the comfort concerns of other passengers, I wonder if airlines can impose lifetime bans on troublesome passengers?

CXCPA posting on airliners.net wrote:
The brief of the event:
On 7 Jul, flight CX504 from Hong Kong to Narita, a HK girl refuse to place her Gucci handbag under the seat. Due to safety, the pilots refuse to take off and annouce to the passenger that due to that passenger refuse to place the handbag under the seat, take-off will be delayed. And then, the Flgiht Attendants explained to that passenger it is a safety measure and she can hold her handbag after take off. And flight attendant also suggested that the flight attendant can help her to place the handbag to the overhead luggage shelf if she think the floor is dirty. But she refused because she think it is too high.
Eventually, the airline called police. That passenger left the flight. It causes the flight delay for more than one hour.

After that, that passenger posted the event on the Web to critise the airline and the HK male passengers not support her. However, many people on the Net critise that passenger . . . more

This same thing happened to my ex-wife a while back, also a Gucci bag and on a CX flight. But in those days the crew did not call the cops at will. The flight attendant brought a plastic bag so my ex-bitch could put her Gucci in it and then under the seat. To her defense, airline floors are not the cleanest places, people puke, drop food, urinate and whatever else might happen. The floor is never washed and carpets only changed every 10 years or so, so you can imagine the worms lurking in those threads. But I would just put my bag in the overhead bin and be done with it.
