Celebrity Shinsuke Shimada will apparently return to TV screens next month, ending a month-long self-imposed exile after he bashed a female employee of his talent agency. "Shimada has not yet come to a settlement with the female employee, but we know he has dealt with the matter with sincerity," a spokesman for Yoshimoto Kogyo, Shimada's talent agency, said on Monday. Shimada, 48, one of the busiest celebrities on Japan's small screens, has yet to grind out the details of exactly when he will re-appear on TV, but Yoshimoto Kogyo will end his exile on Dec. 31. He had admitted to hitting the woman, a Yoshimoto employee, over her abrupt manners.

Celebrity Shinsuke Shimada returned to TV screens Sunday, ending a two-month-long self-imposed exile after he bashed and injured a female employee of his talent agency. Appearing in "Legal Advice Special" broadcast by Nippon TV Sunday night, 48-year-old Shimada deeply apologized to his victim as well as to viewers. "I caused trouble to numerous people. I've never regretted what I did more deeply than now," Shimada said at the end of the program as he bowed to viewers. "I would like to humbly accept severe criticism. I'd like to improve myself." Shimada will also return to seven other programs later this month besides "Legal Advice Special."
He repeated his apology at a news conference following the program. "I remained a naughty boy, and didn't notice I caused trouble to many people without understanding my status. I came to realize that I must change the way I live and show my gratitude to the public (for supporting me)," he said. The comedian said he will continue to sincerely apologize to the victim. "I'll sincerely respond (to the demands of the woman). All I can do is apologize to her."
Shimada told reporters that he was looking after cows in Okinawa Prefecture while he was in exile, adding that he did not feel glad when he was told by his talent agency that he would return to TV screens.

6 years later, a court has ordered Shimada to pay Y10 million damages. He didn't contest the assault claims but instead contested her claim for Y100 million. The judge also held her employer, Yoshimoto Kogyo, liable. Shimada said after the verdict that he wanted to apologize to her again while Yoshimoto said they would take steps to avoid any such recurrences in the future.

Shimada was investigated in 2004 by Osaka prosecutors and fined Y300,000.
