Mr. Rogers Dies... :(

Postby GuyJean » Fri Feb 28, 2003 1:20 am

I know he was dorky.. but I learned from him..

'Mister Rogers' Dies at Age 74
http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/27/rogers.obit/index.html
"I got into television because I hated it so," he said. "And I thought there was some way of using this fabulous instrument to be of nurture to those who would watch and listen."

Through the years, Rogers featured artists ranging from cellist Yo-Yo Ma to
bodybuilder-actor Lou Ferrigno. He dealt with the death of pets and divorce, while teaching children to love themselves and others. During the Persian Gulf War, he made a series of public service announcements telling parents how to talk to their children about war.

We need you now... :|

fashion hoax gone international

Postby den4 » Fri Feb 28, 2003 3:19 am

Fashion Hoax Fools People Worldwide
TOKYO - 22 Feb 2003 09:33AM GMT +9
Thousands of people worldwide are being fooled by a clever fashion hoax which plays on people's secret desires.

The e-mail hoax carries just two sentences: "What you see below are not see-thru skirts. They are actually prints on the skirts to make it look as if the panties are visible and the current rage in Japan."

If these sentences don't fire the imagination, the attached photos will. Six small photos show clothed women in everyday situations: reading a book in a book store, riding an elevator, announcing something in a microphone during an event. All of the photos are shot from the back and show the women's panties as if you can see right through their skirts and dresses.

Dozens of people have written Japan-based journalist and street fashion photographer Kjeld Duits to help them find the producer of these clothes. "A lot of people want to import these clothes," explains a bemused Duits, "without realizing that these kind of doctored images are actually quite common in Japan's cheaper porn magazines. Perhaps it plays to the image of the Japanese that many Westerners have as sensual and free of restrictions when it comes to sex. You see this in all fantasies about Japanese women as long ago as Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly. Whoever thought of this hoax was very clever."

Not everyone is bemused after hearing that the clothes they would like to import only exist in a computer's program. "What a crazy crazy world," wrote a surprised businessman in Germany. An adventurous young woman in the States gave a different reply: "I was actually kind of disappointed the skirts weren't true... I was looking forward to wearing it to work and giving Human Resources, our fashion police, a run for their money!"

You sure had me checking whether it was true  since he's only been retired less than 3 years. Dang that was close! I can just see the TV screen now...
"Due to technical difficulties, Mr. Rogers is dead.
Please stand by."

However, all the wires like AP and VOA says he's dead...
Children's Show Host Mr. Rogers Dies...He created Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, in 1963 and hosted the program until his retirement in 2000.

Is it true that he was tattooed all over his arms and that is why he wore those sweaters all the time? I always liked the show as a kid, and I think his show actually was worthy of being an educational show for children.. unlike that retarded purple dinosaur... and those sexually deviant teletubbies...
RIP Mr. Rogers.

Never had the pleasure.

Barney should be shot. Along with that evil yellow hippo (they were teaching children how to dismantle and clean a vacuum cleaner with a toohbrush and a smile on their face the other day :x ).

Teletubbies? What's wrong with them? Nobody likes Tinky-Winky anyway, so who cares if he's a poof?

[Fred Rogers] shelves and walls are full of mementos - from 69 years of living and 47 years of working in television. One of these, a framed sign, reads, "Freddy, I like you just the way you are." The words are from Rogers' grandfather, Fred Brooks McFeely. They are an accurate summation of the message Rogers tries to communicate to children through his TV program, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."

Postby den4 » Fri Feb 28, 2003 12:30 pm

Tried to set up a new thread, and somehow it was set on the Mr Rogers thread....talk about incompetence....I guess that's what you get when you're working at the mushroom forest too long....hellfire! (or is it that Unmentionable Place Fire!)

ooops....

oh well....I'll bow down in shame for the blunder....
at least one thing for sure, even for somebody who screwed up like me, I believe Mr Rogers was the kind of guy who'd forgive, regardless of what kind of f'd up neighborhood you lived in or came from... :D

Sorry, people.....time to take some time off from the bloody forest.... :P

den4

Sad to hear he died of cancer....but if anything, at least he made a difference in children's television :D

I didn't know Mr. Rogers, but I've heard a rumor Michael Jackson is asking to replace him.

Nice work. He deserves to be mentioned in history books. He rocks and will forever me remembered. I wonder if they have a DVD collection of his shows? Something I could show my kids someday.

Bluepxl,
Thank you man. I havent heard the Mr. Rogers theme in oh so many years....

But I remembered it and started singing along.....

BB,
Yeah, I'd like them to release DVDs of that too. Too many episodes to do a complete collection, but maybe a "best of" set of 6 or 10.

Bluepxl,
where did you get that sound file? And does anyone know if someone could actually listen to some of the episodes on the net?

I will see Fred Rogers again when I get to heaven, so I am not sad. Only sad for the world who was blessed by this kind man of God.
When I found out he was an ordained minister, I was surprised, but not surprised. With all the scandals of men of the cloth, this guy was a standout example of what a minister should be. We need more like him.

See you soon Mr. Rogers.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
