Asahi: Breakthrough in regenerative medicine reported by Kyoto University researchers
Researchers at Kyoto University have found a way to bypass the controversy over the use of human embryonic stem cells for regenerative medicine--by using skin cells of mice. The breakthrough could rewrite the way tissue and internal organs damaged in accidents or illnesses are supplemented in future. Shinya Yamanaka, professor of stem cell biology at the Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences at Kyoto University, and Kazutoshi Takahashi, an assistant professor there, announced their findings in the online version of the U.S. science journal Cell on Friday.
