...I really don't want to discuss my first trip off post, which occurred only three hours after I landed on Okinawa. You see, we newly arrived soldiers were supposed to stay on our posts for our first three days there, so our Army ID Cards were taken away from us when we landed and kept from us for our first three days on the island. When I took my first trip off post, I didn't have my Army ID Card, which was the only pass that we soldiers needed to go legally off post. But my newly assigned base, Sukiran, didn't have any gates guarded by MPs (Military Police), and there were no barriers to stop me from going into town and coming back a bit inebriated. Consequently, I went out bar hopping as soon as I could, and because prostitution was legal over there back then, I had sex with a prostitute for the first time, during my first evening on the island...more...

I was dispatched to the NCO club in reference to a fight. When I arrived, I found two great looking Okinawan females fighting to see who was going home with a Sergeant. The two girls were in a vehicle ripping off their clothes. I then made a mistake and put out a broadcast that the girls were half nude. Two minutes later the NCO Club looked like the RAFP motor pool! Traffic, Post Patrol, and Town Patrol units all showed up.

That fight story is similar to something I was told while in Vanuatu (small country in the Pacific) two weeks ago. The manager of a casino/club was telling me that a recurring problem is fights starting in the early hours when the male patrons are heavily boozed up. Calling the cops wouldn't work because they wouldn't come. (They would always tell him the jail was already full.) So one time there a professional boxer started causing trouble. The bouncers wouldn't touch him. So he called the cops and said two girls were duking it out between the slot machines. He said they showed up in less than 10 minutes.
