Later, at the 'Touch' corner on the ground floor, we will look at works related to the talk at the gallery, including a tea bowl of Shino pottery and a sake bottle of Bizen pottery. *This programs is offered without any additional charge to all the visitors with tickets for the permanent exhibition. *No reservation required.

Yesss! I love the Toppan Printing Museum. The exhibits are fascinating, although a bit specialized for printing geeks, but there is plenty of material that will appeal to everyone. I think one of their permanent exhibits is a modern recreation of the wood block plates for Hokusai's famous print "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa" and a step by step demonstration of how it was printed, one color at a time. Quite fascinating even if you're not into printing, to see how one of the great icons of Japanese art was created.
You can also sign up to take classes in Letterpress printing. They have a lab with a whole bunch of Kelsey Excelsior letterpresses, just like the one I own. But even if you aren't interested in taking classes, they have a little "print gocco" setup that you can use to print your own souvenir.
I still have a laugh when I recall going to that museum. I remember I was taking notes in my pocket notebook using my favorite mechanical pencil, when a guard came up and said notetaking with pens and mechanical pencils was prohibited. Then she handed me a wooden pencil stamped with the Toppan logo and said it was OK if I used that to take notes. I said, "oh, you mean everything but TOPPAN pencils are prohibited." The guard laughed.

BTW, ojara, you don't get much feedback on your reports, but I read every one and I'm sure a lot of other people do too. Thank you for posting them.

Wow, a civil post from Charles.

What are things coming to next? I also follow her posts and have made two of her recommended exhibitions, one of which is quite close to the UK Embassy and very handy to most Tokyoites. I haven't been to the Toppan site yet, but maybe this weekend. Charles, thanks for the woodblock print input, I hope that is still there, as that is of great interest to me.

Well, I'll second that Charles.

My friends from my old Sugamo neighborhood work for Toppan and I've always enjoyed invitation to the exhibits. The Toppan Printing Museum is a great place to buy afforable Japaneseque gifts for the folks back home that you would never see at regular tourist junk shops.

The Printing Museum is, as Ojara-san warned us, a long walk from any station. The English map is here.

And of course as Charles said, we appreciate all of Ojara-san's efforts to keep us informed about exhibits and art shows. THANX! :P

But I know you never reach him.

His originality composition, motive, colour, funny view.
Everything mixed and completed his world.
